Hi I live in Port Charlotte Florida. We wanted to create a coop that was all one unit coop & run,
since we have limited space we built the unit from plywood, 2x4, 2x2 and hardware cloth.
The coop measures 6X10 is 5ft tall on the drop down door side and 6ft high on the entrance door side...
My small flock of 4 hens 2 bantams broke out with Fowl Pox early in Oct.. in 3 weeks they had all cleared up... no complications.. no vaccine
I don't believe that they can catch it again.
I put the fresh collected eggs in the fridge... I wash them before I use them .... no use taking chances with bacteria that might be on the outside of the shell and end up in your omelet...
Question I have 5 ... 3 month old girls, when I can I let them out of the coop enclosed area into the backyard.. safely.
How do I get them back into the coop when I want them back in the coop?
If I already had chickens doing this, then the new ones would follow their routine..
but we are all new...
If I could only have a chicken resort like yours!
How did you plan this all out?
I see you even have a sitting area for you to sit and watch your beauties.
is it really necessary to "coop" up the chickens at night? I live in FL and wanted to have and open front on the nesting box area. 3sides of the coop will be solid but the front that faces out into the run area I was going to keep open Anyone have any answers to that?
