She hatched in May of this year and she is laying an egg every day (brown). Big girl with a big personality. I just lover her. My son still asks what kind she is, and I still don't know. Any ideas? Thanks!
Here are some more recent pictures. Still hoping to get an idea of hen/roo and maybe what breed. I keep telling my son they are mutt chickens! lol He says, "Mama, stop joking me. What are they really?" To which I respond "Chickens".
Apparently so. Then I came home from the store (going to get their food) and they had knocked their water over! They all seem to be in a mood today. lol
We have three. We have no idea what kind they are or even if they are hens or roosters. lol They were a class project for my son--they got to study the eggs, watch the hatch, and then the teacher told them they could adopt them. So, home they came.
Loving having my chickens! They are still not outside so each morning we take them outside and put them in the 5'x5' temporary run. Usually they go quietly, but this morning I swear one tried her best to cluck at me. I know that she is probably too young (4 weeks old tomorrow) but she let out...
Well, the temps are in the 80's and have hit 90 on a couple of days. The chicks seem to love being outside, and I love having them outside. They love sunbathing, and we think it is funny to watch them all plop down in the sun. Next thing you know, they are up pecking and scratching. Cute...
We have one of the larger ones and that is what they stay in all the time. The schnauzer wasn't very happy when I took her bed to let the chicks play in it! lol
I used a medium sized dog kennel (the black metal kind) with the plastic floor removed. I was able to slide a tree branch through the sides to make a perch. We are making a 5'X5' "play pen" for them out of PVC and chicken wire, but until that is finished the kennel will have to do.
Lots of really good ideas. I live in Alabama, and while it's not as hot as other places, the summers do get awfully warm here. lol Our chicks are only 2 weeks old and I too am worried about putting them out in the summer with no change to acclimate to outside temps. We tried taking them out...
They are SO cute, and look like they are having the time of their lives. Our babies didn't want me to leave their side! I can't wait until our crew is brave enough to run around like that.
