Crossbow is a great product for all broad leaf (poison ivy/oak), but WON'T kill the grass. I wait until a good rain happens before letting the ladies into the treated area.
I have a ten week old Welsummer pullet that I brought in this morning with similar symptoms. I am feeding scrambled eggs and water from an oral syringe. She is slowly perking up. I'll try the rice and yogurt too. I think they were low on food during my back to back 15 hour shifts and maybe she...
Oyster shell provides calcium for your laying hens. It contains too much calcium to give before your ladies start laying.
Grit comes in different sizes, it is crushed granite, the smallest size will say that it can be given to chicks less than 10 weeks. However, they don't need it right away...
My husband thought we had agreed to six. When he came home from a business trip he met our five Welsummers, and ten Mottled Java's. Hehehe. Good thing we have five acres.

Here's a good photo showing the chest color on a pullet...
I am encouraged to hear that. When I finally find my Marans, I will be adding them to my Welsummers and Mottled Java's. I love the stories of how to introduce by confusion. Sometimes I don't think they have the sense that God gave a cricket. What does it say about me that I can watch them all day?
My name is Maren. I have been interested in keeping chickens for some time. I recently moved out of our state capitol after trying unsucessfully to revise city land use code to allow three back yard hens. It was during that time that I learned of this helpful website.
We now have five acres...
