Now I understand...

My husband thought we had agreed to six. When he came home from a business trip he met our five Welsummers, and ten Mottled Java's. Hehehe. Good thing we have five acres.

I've caught that fever!

Two babies climbing all over my computer as we speak, and I'm thinking when we come back from vacation I'm gonna have to add an EE, but I can't have one little chick by itself, so I gotta get 2, right?

Easter Eggers, Sliver Wyandottes, and Faverolles!
I hope our neighbors won't mind. I figure we can just bribe them with eggs.

Be really careful on that assumption - I just got called in to rescue 13 chicks from a guy who ordered the chicks, and when he told the neighbors, they went ballistic on him. And they had the HOA backing them up.

Verify it's okay and then enjoy your chickens!

Did I read that you only have 4 chickens right now? How sad......you need at least 20 more. Then that is when the fever really starts. One will sure to turn broody on you (if like me, the day after I bought an incubator), and suddenly you are counting 50 chickens in the back yard, your cell phone ring tone is "chicken song", and all your co-workers stop talking when you walk into the room. At first you will wonder why, but you will soon find out that you are wearing your chicken poo covered coop shoes to the office.

Good luck!

When this all started, I thought I wanted no more than six hens, so I bought the plans to the very cute Garden Coop. Then I met a gentleman who built a coop for a friend of a friend and we decided to have him build us a coop/run that would house 12 chickens. There was going to be a longer wait for that particular coop, so we figured the next size up, which would hold 15 birds, would be perfect.

Then I read more of these forums and discovered Marans....

I called him back and told him we wanted his biggest coop. It holds 45 birds with storage in the loft. The coop is now nicer than our house!

I currently have in my brooder 8 chickens. One is a RIR rooster FOR SURE and he is going to a super new home tomorrow with another RIR pullet (so they wont be lonely). So then, there will be 6. One Barred Plymouth Rock, One Red Sexlink, One White Leghorn, One RIR, and two BOs. And I want more.

But I'm told on here that my coop isn't big enough for more, but we have plans to enlarge our run when they are bigger. My husband JUST finished building it, and now I'm painting it all pretty (pics in the next day or so) and he told me... "Maybe I should have built it bigger." We'd build another, but our backyard isn't large enough.

Especially with the two raised bed gardens going right now as well. ::sigh::

Yep. Not even sure how it happened. Just wanted some healthy eggs. Couple of chickens. I have 14 chickens now. One coop ready, another in the works. One 20 x 15 run almost ready, with plans for another the same size. Not even sure how it happened. It's like I'm possessed.

Our neighbors actually have plans now to get their own chickens. Apparently- the fever is contagious!
