I've gone from 9-11 average from 12 hens to 4-5 eggs daily, 3 are molting but it's a light molt, same food, they free range an hour or two every evening, nothing has changed, maybe they need to be wormed?
Very similar to mine, the floor area on mine below the roost bars is one layer of 2x4 wire and a layer of chicken wire, most of the poo falls through to the ground, I do have to clean the wire at times, my coop is 2 feet above the ground, birds seem to like to hang out under there, I have pvc...
I have electricity but no easy access to pressurized water so I was thinking about putting a small evaporative cooler in my coop, Not sure how well this will work or not, I lost 2 birds last summer to this N. Texas heat, the large chunks of ice is something I can try as well
I started my flock 4 years ago with a dozen 2 day old chicks, 4 rir, 4 black sex links and 4 easter eggers, I still have one of each, I have an assorted bunch with 10 more hens and 3 roo's, with my current coop and run I'm near capacity, planning on starting a new coop and run that will be at...
Just mainly for eggs, I bought them together a couple of months ago and they have remained together in their own separate coop and run, I have eleven hens in a different area, guess I could put the roo in with them, Rir's, sex links and americauas, would that be a better mix? Thanks
I have a Marans roo and a half dozen isa browns, I'm fairly sure I have seen some fertile yolks on the few eggs of theirs I have cracked and eaten, Will this be a good mix if I try to hatch some of these eggs, Thanks
This is actually a question concerning integrating a few 7-8 month old hens with my older flock of hens, this will bring my total flock to 19 hens and 1 roo, my coop is 8x8 with two 8 foot long roost bars and 4 nest boxes, run space is 24x8, with an additional 6x8 pen that has a connecting...
Same here Diva, my 4 younger hens are starting to lay now so I'm up to 10-11 eggs a day, gathered an egg yesterday that is really long, bet it's a double yolk
