UPDATE: All of our chickens are now sold. We had a guy come yesterday to get our Ameracuana pair and my polish and the other 12 are going to a friend of ours Friday. I will be leaving BYC since we don't have plans to get more chickens anytime soon.
ETA: Does anyone know how to cancel a BYC...
The cochins are definately pretty especially my frizzle.
We have a guy coming for the Ameracauna pair I have and my polish hen, he may be interested in the polish mix rooster too. DH is now thinking about keeping a couple of the chickens just so we have eggs we can still sell to my stepmom...
Getting out of chickens to focus more on goats. Have the following for sale if anyone is interested.
We have 12 chickens, and 1 rooster for sale.
1 black turken hen ~ 6 months old, laying a pale brown egg (looks almost pink)
1 buff laced polish hen ~ 6 months old, lays small light tan egg
2...
I'm guessing it's just the polish and EE mix that makes that cool comb combination. I know there is definate polish in there because it's the only crested breed that was on the farm I got him from. The other part I am not totally sure on. I just assume EE because of the beard and leg color...
Since I talked about him I guess I should show off my EE/Polish cockeral. He is 26 weeks old now. I know he is part polish because of the partial crest and the comb, I am figuring he is part EE too because he had green legs as a chick and has a beard. Those green legs have turned blue now...
I can do you one better! I've lived in NC my whole life and in my area my whole life (I'm 27) and don't know where tons of things are. Heck I've mapquested where some places are when someone mentions they are from a particular area. Or pulled up a county map to figure out where they are in the...
Yeah. It gets picked on by a couple of the adults.
I was looking at pictures of my current roosters when they were 13 weeks old and they had much more pronounced combs as well as hackle feathers at a younger age than this one does. The comb on this one is also half single and half pea (best way...
Ok, I got some better pictures today of the chick we hatched from our flock that I still haven't figured out what gender is. The chick is 15 weeks old now. The comb honestly seems half single and half pea. It has not gotten any bigger like my other roosters when they were that age. Yes it is red...
That does help. The young ones are only 6 months old. I thought they don't do a huge molt till they are at least a year old. I've noticed more feather loss on a couple of my EE hens (they were already a little roughed up from previous roos) and it may be starting on the RIRs a bit since their...
So maybe this will be a dumb question but bear with me I've only had chickens since last July and never had layers in the fall/winter months. The past few days the egg production of my hens has gone down dratically. It went from 9-10 eggs a day to 4-5 eggs a day. This is with even some young...
Thank you to those who have given their opinion on gender. I'm going to try to get ahold of the chick so I can try to get some better pictures hopefully tomorrow. I'll be able to look for saddle and hackle feathers then too as well as see if there is any wattle development going on. I'm hoping...
Here are some egg pictures for y'all. If you can see it well enough there is a blue egg on top. It is from my non standard Ameracauna. Parents were mixed colors (I think a white and a wheaten), but she looks like a pure white (as does the rooster we got with her with the same parentage)...
I've got a gender question for y'all. This is the chick that we hatched out under our first ever broody. When it was hatched I feather sexed it (for the heck of it) and got that it was a girl. I know it's an EE because it hatched out of one of the green EE eggs. It honestly looks more like the...
