Chickens that bully people - normal?

I use a good sized cup, so my fingers are wrapped around it. Their feeder hands on some paracord, and I pull it as close to the door as I can. Maybe with a bucket I could hold the top of it, a little more out of potential range.

Chickens that bully people - normal?

This is our second round of 6 chickens. We had a gold sex-link with the first that made all of us nervous. She would meet me at the hen house door and watch my fingers a little too closely while I filled their feeder. She would run at and nip my daughter, though I didn't believe her till it...

What color have some of you painted your coop

I just used Olympic Semi-Transparent stain/sealant on mine with added color (dark mahogany). It adds color but you can still see the wood through. I really like how it turned out. Marni

    Chickens won't use their ladder!

Thanks for the great suggestions! I've been wondering if I have ladder problems, too. So nice to have all the "experts" here. Marni

    The Wyandotte Thread

Loving the pictures - we have a silver laced and red laced about 9 weeks old. I'm really looking forward to that beautiful white coming out a lot more in the silver. About when can I expect that? Thanks, Marni

    Getting to the Roost

Sorry - I should measure and be more specific, but it's dark and late. It's an A frame, so approx 3 feet to the roosting/laying/upper floor area, with another 1 1/2 plus feet inside. Wondering about the best way to get them up there, and wondering how big the opening should be for them to go...

    Getting to the Roost

I've been working on my first ever power tools building project this week thanks for our chickens. My 5x8 chicken tractor is looking fabulous (even if I do say so my very unexperienced self), but one possible dilemma. Without measuring it's about 3 feet from the ground to the opening for the...

    Drowsy... or a problem?

I put her beak in the water and got her to drink while I was down there. I've checked a few times since and she seems to have perked up. When I went down once she was eating away, and the next time she was huddled around the water with the others drinking. Still closing her eyes a lot...

    Drowsy... or a problem?

We bought our first 6 chicks on Wednesday. I think the oldest is about 8 days old, and on down from there. One of the two that I figure are about 5 days old has been the sweetest little thing, really seems to like us holding her - when we're setting her back down she just sits on your hand...

    Utah!

We're fighting the Clinton City planning commission right now trying to get our city ordinance changed. I posted some information on another thread about something from the Extension Poultry Expert which will be attending a meeting tonight...

    Help refuting an "expert"

I'm brand new to the forum, hello! I live in Clinton, Utah and our planning commission is currently looking at the chicken issue, deciding just what to recommend to the city council regarding chickens. I want to look though more of the threads on here, but in the mean time, this is a letter...
