    So I got some eggs for my Silkie to hatch, she went broody on me and I finally gave up on trying to break her of it. Yesterday she hatched two little adorable chicks. So if these liitle guys end up being roosters, how long can I keep them before they start causing problems, like being too noisy...

    I got a couple of eggs for my Silkie to hatch. I was thinking of only putting one out there for now. How long does it take for an egg to hatch and how long can I keep a fertilized egg before it becomes unhatchable??? Thanks!

    Sad Silkie?

    So I went and got a couple of fertilized eggs. Should I put both of them in there? Will the baby chicks be ok outside with the Silkie? Its pretty warm right now, Im in Northern California, San Jose area. Thanks for your guys help!

    I dont have any fertilized eggs. Is it normal for her to sit in there even tho theres not an egg to sit on?? I wonder if I should make a temporary pen outside to keep her from going back into the coop and sitting in the nest all day.

    The DE is food grade, I mixed some up, just a tiny bit with the feed for my chicks and had no problem. My freind put quite a bit in so I suspect that is what happened. Thanks for your replies. We're so bummed out......
