Mine are inside the coop too. Used to have them on the floor, in the begining, but hung then as soon as I could. Works much better for me & they stay cleaner.
I have White Rocks, they are pretty friendly. I really like them. When they are free ranging & I go out they come running to see what I may have for treats or maybe just to visit. They are not as flighty as my White Leghorns.
As a bonus I'm starting to get very large eggs, weighing 2.8 oz. &...
Congrats! Hope they all make a safe journey to you.
I'm just a little jealous though, we'll be ordering from Ideal too, but not till March or April. That's the plan anyway. I want some now!!!
DH has decided we need to order 100 this time, so now we need to renovate & build a couple...
I don't remember where I read or heard this but, if you crack the egg on a flat surface, like your counter top or stove top, you will usually get no shell in your pan or mix. Cracking them on the rim of a pan, bowl or cup will break the shell in smaller pieces, making it harder to see or pick...
Wow!! You gal's sure move fast. I couldn't get online yesterday after my DD got up. She's on temporary lay-off till Jan. 13th. She kinda takes over the computer and that's it for me till the next morning. Well, it is her computer...lol!!!
Anyway, Glad we have a club now. This will be such...
I love cross stitching too!!!
Sorry I can't find a little sheep pattern for you. I've been searching the internet...seems it's not being real friendly to me right now.
I'll keep trying later and see what I can find.
How long have you been cross stitching?
I've been stitching for about...
Glad to hear your girls are laying again!
Ours started laying Nov. 2 and are still going. We get about 11 a day out of 20 hens.
A friend of ours told us his stopped laying in August and if they don't start again soon they are going in the pot.
I told DH to tell him to give them time and they...
I wash mine right before I'm going to use them and only the ones I'm going to use at that time. This leaves the 'bloom', a natural coating on them so they last longer and don't absorb bacteria.
If they are extra dirty, I'll use a dry cloth or paper towel to clean them up a little before...
Add me to the group, I want to quit too!!
My daughter & I had just been talking about this in the past 2 weeks. I smoke less than a pack a day and have really started to wonder why I even smoke at all, other than the addiction. I really hate to wake up every morning with cotton mouth and...
Hi -
I'm in Cassatt, just outside of Camden going north on Hwy #1. Been here for 10 yrs. this past June. Originally from southern PA.
Just got started with chickens again after many years, which are now 8 wks old. I posted in the Me, My family... some days ago. I don't post much.
But...
Thanks hwerner & LindaN!
I talked with DH about this, including the mold issue you spoke about Linda, which I never thought about. I was figuring that I would dry them out by laying a thin layer on a tarp in the sun. But none the less, they will absorb moisture & keep it even dried out. He...
DH & I were talking about this last evening. We haven't had fresh eggs in years, after we got rid of our chickens years ago, we just bought eggs from the store.
He can't wait to have fresh ones, I told him I'm going to have to ease into them. Maybe start out scrambling them or making omelets...
On the weekends, DH works with a friend who has his own Tree business, so we have access to wood chips (free).
My question is: After drying out the wood chips, would they be okay to use for bedding with new chicks & in the coop with the older chickens?
The chips would be a mixture of...
