Why do fresh eggs taste so much different than store bought? I have been eating fresh for 3 weeks now and find I am not liking the taste. To rich or something. I have eaten store bought eggs for years and always looked forward to breakfast. Now just the though of fresh eggs turns me off. Does anyone here feel the same or am I just an odd ball? I thought after eating fresh eggs I would acquire a taste for them but it's not working. John

I have heard of people that will only bake with fresh eggs because of the taste. We just can't seem to get enough of ours. Even our friends love them. We went camping this past weekend. I cooked breakfast the first morning. Everyone liked the eggs so much I was volunteered to cook the second morning as well!

I agree that the taste is richer, but for me, that's a great plus! My chickens aren't laying yet, but I do buy from a lady in town. We just moved to Maine 5 months ago, and for the last 4, I've been buying eggs locally. Once or twice, I needed to buy store bought eggs, and I literally gagged when I looked at them in the bowl, and couldn't force more than a bite in my mouth..
I love the taste and bright color of fresh eggs--- I say nothing beats it. I can't wait for my chickens to start laying so I can eat them every day! I'm lucky that I work with someone who will put me first on her egg list, so I get plenty without having to wait too long. We almost always have a fresh dozen or sometimes two in the fridge.
Some folks have recommended mixing store bought and fresh, 1 for 1, or even 2 storebought with 1 fresh, until you get used to the taste. Most people enjoy the fresh once they get used to what they taste like, but some don't. Only time will tell!

Fresh eggs do have an eggier flavour. Sometimes I object to flavour of things simply because it's not what I was expecting. Maybe stop eating them for awhile then try again with different expectations?

Personally, I've stopped eating store-bought eggs while I wait for the fresh ones. Having had the fresh ones, I find the others lacking. Too bad you're so far away, I'd take them all off your hands.

DH & I were talking about this last evening. We haven't had fresh eggs in years, after we got rid of our chickens years ago, we just bought eggs from the store.

He can't wait to have fresh ones, I told him I'm going to have to ease into them. Maybe start out scrambling them or making omelets. He wants fried, hard boiled, egg salad ect... I told him I'm so used to the anemic eggs from the store, it may take a little bit to get used to fresh, homegrown again.

Of course, we have to wait some months to find out. Our's are only going on 8 weeks old.

Crooked stripe, what do your hens eat, besides feed? What brand of feed are you using? Does it have any fish meal in it? Too high a percentage of fish meal or flax can change the taste of eggs. Feeding onions can change the flavor of eggs. It could be that your eggs have the typical flavor of a fresh egg and you don't like it. I just want to make sure that it doesn't have anything to do with something they might be eating.

I like my eggs, as does my husband and anyone we give them to. In addition to feed and a daily sunflower seed treat, our hens free range and eat a lot of fresh green food. They are big on eating leafy greens from many types of plants, as well as bugs and whatever else they find. Their eggs taste a lot better than some of the ingredients that went to make them!

Purina Layina is what our feed store carries. The chickens do free range and eat what you describe. All the people that get my eggs have great things to say about them so I just figured it was me. I am going to get some store bought this afternoon and compare. Some one at the airport this morning said it might be the new medicine I am taking for my arthritis. John
