Unfortunately she deteriorated significantly and we lost her today, we will be sending her off for a necropsy to find out what was going on with her.
We did lose a hen to marek's last year and we aren't sure if she was vaccinated so thinking that could have been the cause...
Thanks again for...
Separated her for a few hours yesterday just to ensure she was eating and drinking fine, she's scavenging and eating normally, tail and head are perked up just pale, and the other girls are leaving her alone so she's back in with them. Just monitoring for now, lump doesn't seem to have changed...
We have separated her and keeping an eye on her to make sure she's eating and drinking enough, have added some electrolytes/vitamins and seems like she's eating and drinking plenty just watching her this morning.
Not sure about eggs as we just got back from a week away and had a friend...
Checking over our hens today and found our ISA Brown (1.5years) a bit under the weather, she's lost some weight and her comb is pale. On further inspection found this lump under her wing, it's soft and pliable. Do you think it's a tumor or cyst? Recommendations on what to do, no bird vets near...
Oh absolutely, the only reason I say I don't think it was from the new hen is that she stopped laying before we even brought the new one home.
And yes to treats, scratch occasionally but not often.
Our whole flock were treated with safeguard as the first thing we did when we noticed some poop change before being able to narrow down to who had the weird poop specifically before we separated her :)
We feed purina layer feed and we brought home a new hen a week ago but she is still quarantined from the rest, we're pretty strict on cross contamination and the others are fine. She stopped laying a few days before we bought her home, so I'm 99% sure it wasn't from her.
The rest have been...
Update: we made the decision to humanely euthanize her, she was deteriorating rapidly, sometimes the fairest decision is the hardest one 💔 rest easy sweet Sassy
We have a approx 1 year old hen who has always been a consistent layer, and often large eggs.
She is lethargic, and not eating or drinking (she will eat sporadically but barely anything) standing on her own and not moving fluffed up and closing her eyes
We have treated for Corid, and given...
Hi All
Our Sapphire Gem has slowed down over the last 48 hours.
She is still eating and drinking on her own (not much but some)
Symptoms: pale comb, lethargy, diarrhea, lack of appetite, tail down, slow to move but still walking/standing
She's now separated from our flock to monitor and I'm...
Our local feed mills are significantly cheaper than TSC, we will go there on occasion (usually Sunday's when our locals are closed and we need something)
Also much more knowledgeable and seem like they want to be there (and closer than our local TSC)
I have bought stuff online when needed but...
Update: she deteriorated rapidly over the past few days, unable to stand or walk easily and lost interest in food. Made the tough decision to euth her. Suspect it was Mareks
Been checking her crop every morning and it's been completely emptying with no residue.
I looked into her beak yesterday and couldn't see anything, also checked with a qtip down her throat and didn't get any mucous or anything out
