I have Easter eggers. They will be 2 yrs old in January they are going through their 2nd molt.
I have one that today I noticed for the very first time, she is growing feathers on her feet. I'm amazed bc I didn't think that would happen. It's just really cool, 2 yrs old and growing feet feathers...
Please note for any newbies the screen is good only if you are in a walled suburb like the author. You might consider, if following this design, hardware cloth for air flow and predator protection if so needed/ desired.
Sweet Picasso, so calm and loving came to me a year ago from a neighbor who didn't keep her chicks safe. The only surviving member this 3 or 4 week old chick had dried blood,a broken leg, and a impacted crop full of hay.
She fought side by side with me as I nursed her back to health she overcame...
Cant say all eggs just seen it three times happen in front of me so she could be laying others fine have 20 other ee's so not easy to see each lay it was about 2 weeks after breaking I saw the first mishap then once a week later, then once more just the other day
Plus this is her second time being broody first time was last year August when she was only 7 months she hatched one chick so this isn't her first broodiness, but it's the one we broke bc we didn't want to hatch this year...
1 and 1/2 year EE was broody for a couple weeks finally broke, seemingly healthy. Active, eating layer feed plus calcium on the side if needed. Has gone back to laying but the shell comes out open or weak and egg is spilled out

I'm not sure why but she spent a couple weeks looking weak and losing weight. I fed her special treats including her first ever boiled egg which she loved, she was looking stronger and participating with the flock, eating, etc. Then yesterday morning she looked ill again and...
