    Chicken spinning

One of my hens had a stem twisted around her foot today. I noticed that she was spinning and trying to get it off herself so my husband and I took it off for her. However, even after we got it off, she is still cranking her neck around and spinning in circles. Is there anything I can give her to...

One hen dead without signs of trauma. Do I need to worry about the rest of my flock?

This morning I found one of my hens under the roosting bars dead. She was perfectly fine yesterday. Wandering around the yard with the other hens and our 1 rooster. She was less than a year and started laying in December. Now that I think of it, I haven’t seen one of her eggs in a couple days...

    Preparing for laying

I have one hen, a white austra, who might lay as early as 12 weeks. She’ll be that age in late august/early September. The rest of the hens won’t be laying until 20-24 weeks old. That being said, what do I need to do to prep our coop for the one chicken laying but not the others? Is it different...

    Pasty butt

Update: the suggestions seemed to help and he is growing well! He is still obviously smaller than the hens, but he is no longer having issues and surprisingly the easiest of the chickens to handle.

Yes, they are getting their wood chip bedding into the waterer. I got some and will put it in tonight.

    Pasty butt

It doesn’t look like he’s any fluffier than the others. His feathers definitely aren’t coming in as quickly as the hens and he is also noticeably smaller.

    Pasty butt

I have been doing moistened food and using a heat plate. I’ll adjust it to be at an angle though. I’ve been changing their water 3 times a day. Is there a good brand of probiotics to choose or just anything I can find at our local store?

    Pasty butt

My chicks will be 2 weeks old on Monday and my rooster, King, who is a cream legbar has gotten pasty butt a lot. I’ve cleaned him off 3 times already and then just noticed that it’s coming back already. He also is not growing near as much as the hens are. Is there something I need to do...

    Coop size

We recently got chicks and are hoping to move them to the coop in a couple of weeks. We’re thinking of building a hoop run, but I’m a little worried that the coop will be too small. We have 8 hens and 1 rooster. They all smaller breeds, but I’m still worried about it. Especially in the winter...
