    Is this chick unwell?

Nothing out of the norm at all. His behaviour hints to being a healthy chick in every way. He just doesn't look like one physically. His wings tend to be a bit droopy too. My siblings are just telling me he's an ugly chick, but I don't think the balding is a good sign.

    Is this chick unwell?

I was recently given 3 Belgian D'uccles. They are all 2 weeks old, and two were from the same mother, while one was abandoned out in the rain by a different hen. The one that was abandoned is eating, drinking, and sleeping just as well as the other chicks (also with a couple of younger...

Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

They certainly do make great pets. This is my second time raising these breeds (previously raised a silkie hen and Belgian D'uccle rooster), and they were both very friendly affectionate pets.

    Hello from Queensland, Australia

Well, I have a new herb garden and a new silkie, so that is perfect, haha.

Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Just popping in to say hello! I am a new member from just outside Mackay, Queensland. I am not a first time chicken owner, but it's been almost a year since my last one (a rooster I raised from a chick and had to re-home), and I've only owned 2 other chickens over my lifetime. I currently...

    Hello from Queensland, Australia

Thank you. Guinea pigs and chickens are small, but they certainly take up a large piece of our hearts. I didn't know about that thread, so thank you so much! I'll go check it out.

When to be concerned about shunned chick?

Oh, thank you! This was very helpful and I'll start trying it.

When to be concerned about shunned chick?

I only have eggs at the moment, but I can see if I'm able to grab the others as well.

When to be concerned about shunned chick?

I am not really sure of the ages, but I am pretty sure he said the older one was 3 days old when I got it. It would be 4 days old now then. I thought the other chick (who is being shunned) was the same age, but now I am thinking it was part of the one day hatching. That would make it two days...

    Hello from Queensland, Australia

Hi, I just recently discovered BYC while researching how to raise chicks and decided to join after seeing all the supportive and informative forums available. I have owned chickens previously, but this is my first time owning and raising more than one. Growing up, my siblings and I would be...

When to be concerned about shunned chick?

They ended up accepting the lone Belgain chick and it was huddled up with them to sleep all last night. The lone Silkie chick ended up coming over to them but he just slept against them on the outside of their little pile and not actually in among them. I have seen the biggest one peck at him...

Will this silkie be grey or white?

The seller actually told me if I didn't already have chicks at home, he was going to talk me into buying more than one. But I still took the two.

When to be concerned about shunned chick?

So a friend of mine gave me 3 Belgian D'uccle chicks, and I put them with my 2 silkie chicks to raise together. But two of the Belgians and one of the silkies are sticking to each other and sleeping together for warmth, while shunning the remaining silkie and D'uccle. These two just go sit in...
