My Am Buff laid her first egg today! A little muddy, but there it was in her nest. She is 9 months old. I am going to wait until next year before having her hatch goslings. No sense in having teen parents on the farm, lol!! Anyway, I love eating duck eggs and am looking forward to eating goose eggs!

At a little over one month, I began to see the little knob of caruncle in my male ducklings. They are now 3 months old and they all have the bright red caruncles showing. At three months, they are also showing the caruncle develop around the eyes.
I was able to tell the difference between male and females about 2 months. Size is the big tell all. The smaller end up being the females. At three months, the females can already fly. My males are still grounded...they do a lot of flapping and standing on the tips of their webbed feet, but...
