I did purchase an incubator just in case. My first broody is a Cochin and I’ve just had a Salmon Faverole go broody so I’m hoping between the two. I wondered if I could move them together. If they jump ship I have my incubator. I hope they don’t
I’m getting 8 fertilized eggs soon to slip under my broody hen. First time ever! Is it bed time leave her with the flock or place in her own area? We have a second coop I can move her to. What is best for her and potential new babies?? I wanna do it right for babies and momma
I have a columbian Wyandotte rooster who started to fly at me and stalk my grandson. It happened over night this last summer. The rooster will be 1 in April. We removed him from the hens and free ranging with them as I can’t have him attacking the grandchildren or me when going into the coop...
My grandson is 4 and loves to help with our birds. We have Salmon Faverolles, Polish, Cochin and Columbian Wyandotte’s. All are super friendly with him and pretty laid back
need advise. Noticed last night our Cochin rooster was limping. Hoped it would be better in the am but wasn’t. Still limps and will stand at times only on the good foot. He isn’t straying to far from the coop and is even spending more time under the coop laying low. His foot seems red and...
we had a Cochin hen go missing while we were away for 3 days. Had a friends son tending our flock. The poor thing had fallen between a 3 1/2 X 14 inch space in the chicken coop. Did not find her till today 11 days later a few times I heard noises in that area of the coop and would inspect but...
I have several 13 week old roosters. My question is when do they start alerting the flock to danger? We lost a hen to what we thinks was a hawk. When I sit out and watch the birds the cockerels don’t seem to be taking a leadership role. Are they to young?
I’m not sure if the exact dimensions but there is plenty of space for all chickens. We also have a separate smaller coop for the extra roosters that is adequately fenced as well. We didn’t intend to have 6 roosters it just ended up like that with some straight run chicks.
I would like to hatch some chicks next year. We had planned to keep the extra roosters on their own so they can’t get at the hens. We have plenty of space in our yard and built them a coop and fenced area. I’m open to suggestions on how to manage extra cockerels. Truthfully I didn’t realize...
