Yeah somewhere along the way there has been a silkie crossed in for there to be 5 toes, dark skin, feathered feet. My silkie x australorp has the crest. Going thru 2nd gen now. Has the crest also.
Thats a silkie cross from that pic. Check the pics on this thread tp see how the feathers should look like.
Even my half breed silkies have the crests.
If mmm ot a large crest there shpuld be some form of crest there.
Sorry for your loss.
One of my most recent hatches is a sizzle!! Looks like he got some!!
Not too sure what color this one is going to be but so far it has frizzled silkie feathering while the father was frizzled straight (but silkie type). Trying to attach pic from my phone.
Its a funny sight seeing them trying to mount and then the hens realise and turn around to fight off the roo.
Specially when the roo 1st learns and tries to mount older hens.
Makes me laugh seeing the hen chasing them around after they try to mate.
I agree with the comment about some other breed being crossed in for the single comb to come out. I myself have been trying to create some sizzle by breeding female frizzled cochin to silkie roo.
Got a few babies with silkie type but single comb and frizzled feathering.
Later on if i breed back...
Here are a few that hatched recently with one of the parents (perhaps).
Just hatched. Parents are non bearded splash roo and either white pullet or the pullet u see below. I also have a black hen with gold leakage. That's also the chick once fluffed up in the last pic
What colour would you...
Found out today that my partridge sizzle is a male... Got a new silver laced polish 3 days ago and they ended up in same area. Fight ensued and sizzle ended up chasing the silver laced around.
Male or female?? Leaning towards female but questions remain.
boy or girl? Hoping for girl due to reasons below. hackle feathers pointy but then again, his mother's were too.
99.999999% sure this ones male.
That's a bearded one for sure. Some just have more of a beard than others...
Looks like a pullet to me. The way she stands and some of her features scream pullet to me. Cheers, Ps. Should start to get streamers by this stage altho some are slow to do so.
Here is a chart for splash coloring combos.
Hope this helps in some way.
Here is a thread regarding crossing white silkies with black ones.
As for me... I had white silkie roo and grey partridge hen. I got 2 brown partridges and a whole load of grey/brown partridges and some white thrown...
Have to disagree with you there, that's streamers coming from back of the crest and the comb is starting to bulge out. I was on phone when I looked at those pics but now that I've seen it on my desktop I can see what I reckon are streamers more clearly.
Let me know when it starts crowing.
I...
Is that streamers coming from the back of the crest?? My females crests were alot puffier at 4-5 months.
Also that stance and saddle feathers reminds me of male.
Cheers,
P.s. do u have any other photos of it?? Closeup of head would be great as well and tail. Comb looks big too
As for that silkie laying the egg or not... for me a good indicator is when my girls do the mating squat when i go near or reach out for them.
Also measure between end of breast bone and pelvic bone with fingers.
There should be a post somewhere here describing whether your hen is going to...
