Here's the little one I'm talking about. This is Luna. Yes, she's actually tiny, that's my 2 year old she's sitting on :p
Are you sure it's a girl? Appears in the photo to have more hard feathers than fluff (could just be the photo) Queenie's fluff. She's a of a spoild

Thats a silkie cross from that pic. Check the pics on this thread tp see how the feathers should look like.
Even my half breed silkies have the crests.
If mmm ot a large crest there shpuld be some form of crest there.

You are correct about the wing feathers, they are rather hard. The rest of her body feathers sort of 'stick together' more than they probably should, but there is some 'fraying', just not to level of looking like hair like a normal silkie.

I mostly call her a she because of temperament--which is very meek.

As for other silkie traits, the feet are feathered, the skin is black, and 5 toes on each foot.

But I am starting to think that a game cock snuck into the breeder's silkie pen...

Do silkie chicks usually have a crest from the start? I'm asking because I have a little blue chick that has no crest yet. I'm not sure of her age, the person I got her from said she was between 4 - 10 weeks, (this was 2 weeks ago) but I think she's younger. She only weighs 4.5 ounces...compared to my other chick, a partridge who weighs in at 11 ounces. Her wings seem a bit long too, they hang past her butt.

How old are they probably from their sizes?

I found an old post from 2009 hope the link works. content://media/external/file/19442
They said hatchery or PQ may not get the fluff head but I was kinda wondering if maybe it's parents genes had something other than pure silkie. (Example:the NN/showgirl isn't a pure silkie) They are bred with turken naked necks to get that feature. That chicken also has no plume like a silkie does. If the turken is in the genes somewhere, it could cancel out the head plume (just my logic) I'm just learning about chickens

Yeah somewhere along the way there has been a silkie crossed in for there to be 5 toes, dark skin, feathered feet. My silkie x australorp has the crest. Going thru 2nd gen now. Has the crest also.

Can someone please tell me what to do blue was in chicken jail for being a bad rooster!! At some point he did this to his self!! I brought jail in the house so I can keep a closer eye on him but idk what else I should do!!

Sweetie it looks like something bit the top of his head off. Was anything able to get to him through the fence, such as a raccoon?
He looks like he's in shock.
Take him to a vet. If that's a wild animal bite he could be infected.
My heart goes out to you & your bad boy, I sure hope he gets better

I have a Silkie cockerel. He is about 9 months old and has been successfully covering two old silkie hens and a small bantam cochin hen. Their run is about 12' x 14'.

I've two young pullets (at least I am hoping they are pullets - no combs or waddles developing thus far) that are in a run inside that run so I can introduce them into my small flock. The pullets were hatched 4 1/2 months ago. They are not laying or doing anything that definitive that tells me they are boys or girls. Right now, I really feel they are girls.

So, today, it was observed that the cockerel and the sizzle were throwing themselves at each other through the fencing that is separating them. By the time I was able to get out to the chicken run, they had stopped. I've been putting them next to each other for about a week now and have never seen ill behavior. I watched them for a while and they never started up again.

Is this normal?? My intention was to integrate them with the others in the near future - probably when they show signs of sexual maturity. May be a few months before they are completely together.

Advice?? Thank you
