Murphey's Law,we were just commenting last week on how lucky we have been with our 30 birds and wham,I see black warts this morning on almost all of them.I live on a marsh creek in SC and the mosquitoes have been the worst I remember. Darn it!
Goats need minerals with copper and copper is toxic to sheep. That's the biggest drawback.
I have read that you can place the goat minerals higher up where only the goats can reach them, but I'm too paranoid to try that.
Sheep will graze on shorter grass and can pick up more parasites that way...

I'm feeling the same way.I have my goats and 2 lambs now,but I'm constantly worried.
You need to have antibiotics on hand, syringes with and without needles, tetanus vaccine and tetanus antitoxin, wound care items and wormers.
Also something like a nutridrench in case they go off their...
Whew,
I think we dodged a bullet.Zeke the Sheep seems to be back to normal. He's back up with the doelings and grazing.I'm going to do some more penicillin since I don't know exactly what was wrong. If it was an infection from the banding I want to make sure we stay on top of it. We also wormed...

Well, again,my opinion is 39 inch fence won't keep a large breed goat in. I'm guessing you suspected that since you asked the question.Mine are still babies and could probably walk over a 39 inch fence.

Yesterday I came home from picking my son up from school and our 3 month old Nubian cross was in the front yard. Our fence to their pasture is 48''.I have no idea how she got out.The others were still in.I think she may have used the salt block. The fence is in excellent shape and the...

I'm new to this, but have been reading and talking with goat people.Sucking lice can literally suck the life out of a baby goat.
There are all types of treatment from injecting to pour-ons,to powder.
Cylence is a good pour on for lice. There are tons of websites.
Look at the hair shafts...

Okay,
I've done all that. He's nice and purple. He's had a full dose of anti-toxin and penicillin. He gave us a run for our money ,no stiffness,so I pray that's not it.I'll get more in the morning .I pray he doesn't suffer because of my ignorance. I'm going back out to check on...

He hasn't been off the entire time, just yesterday and today. The sac has not fallen off yet so I was wondering if it might be infected. He still gets up and takes off as I approach him,but he's not hanging with the doelings like he was before.
My husband is going to help me round him up...
I have a male lamb that was banded just before I got him ,about 2 1/2 weeks ago.He is starting to lay down a lot, though he'll get up,and seems to just feel cruddy. I think I would too!
The two male goats I'll be getting are going to be banded also.It seems that's what is done around here.I'm a...
I keep reading that you shouldn't have just one goat. They are herd animals and need to be with at least one other goat.
Because of that info I got two.......which a month later is now six. It's a sickness.
Crack it open!!!!!
Looks like a double yolker at least. We just started getting eggs and already hav 2 double yolkers that are a LOT bigger than the regular ones.
My roo was great until puberty hit.Now he attacks me ,but not my husband. This weekend he left long scratches on my leg and several bites and bruises.I'm scared to go in the coop .He's a big RIR.I used to just go in the run and sit with them, but now I can't even take in food and water safely.
