I’m hatching chicks and ducks with my homeschool group and made a grave error. I forgot that ducks and chicks have different hatch lengths and I put them together all to start. Everyone was progressing nicely. I put them all in lockdown for three days and raised the humidity. We got nine out of...
Ok I cleaned the eye and got the goop off and have now noticed a lump on its shoulder. It's like a see-through skin bubble... now I really don't know what to do! Any help is greatly appreciated!
It's anywhere from 80-95 degrees.
This one was slow to hatch too. It was the first crack in the shell, not pipped, just a little crack, then sat there while everyone else hatched and finally pipped last Thursday morning and hatched Friday morning. The other two were together and this was alone...
hello!!
I have three chicks I hatched in the classroom last week. Now they are 4 and 6 days old, only a couple days apart but the two oldest look fluffier and bigger. I'm a little concerned about the younger but maybe two days is a big difference. The smaller still looks sticky gets clumpy...
oh that's a good idea too! I do think it would be better for them to be together... oh it's such a nerve wracking thing this chick mama business!
thank you!! I'll ask the other teacher what she thinks of that!
ok thank you!!
yes it is all by itself :( that's why i thought it would be better to socialize it a bit here and there, but perhaps you're right to just do it all at once.
Greetings!
it's been awhile since I've posted here as I only hatch chicks every two years with my 2nd graders and then the following year with my 3rd graders.
We just hatched two little ones, for some reason the others are not coming along. Not sure why...
Sadly the other 2nd grade class was...
yes, its doing much better today. quite active and excited. jumping all around the brooder. i still have it separated from the others just in case. no more runny nose today and it is eating and drinking. it absolutely hates being alone so i want to get it with the others soon. i am just hoping...
ok thanks.
now i'm noticing that when it peeps, fluid is coming out of its nares. and it tends to shake it's wings a lot in a shivering sort of way. i am keeping it warm but i worry about the quivering and fluid. i'm nervous to put it with the others if it's sick. any advice?
ok i'm going to bring it home to watch it. in regards to my other questions:
should i feed it medicated food and if yes, which kind?
and do i need to do anything special when i introduce it to the other stronger ones? should i not? or wait longer? i know they are social so I don't want to keep...
yes it has pooped.
i was concerned about the heat too and thought about putting in a separate bin with a heat lamp before I left school. i was worried about it being left open and alone though and thought it would be safer inside something. the thing is that i have other eggs in the incubator...
Hi I am a first time duck mama. I've hatched three Indian Runner ducklings in my classroom and the third one is not doing as well as the other two. It had a really hard time hatching and after 24 hours of it being stuck I decided to help. I know there are mixed reviews on helping, but I figured...
Thanks for all the advice everyone. I kept the chick close to me for a day and gave it water from my finger. I didn't have a chance to get the supplies you mentioned because I was at school all day. But by the end of the day the little one was eating and pecking around like the rest. She seems...
