Heritage Bronze Turkeys are laying - what now!?

I have a small flock of heritage bronze turkeys (1 tom, 4 hens). The hens are laying now and have been for about 14 days (an egg a day/nest is pretty much the pattern). I have 26 total eggs in two nests right now - they laid yesterday. I do have an incubator, but would prefer to have the...

Turkey w/ blckhd - 5 days Metronid. still yellow poop?

I did treat for cecal worms. All my turkeys got their first dose of Valbazen already. I am just not sure if the Metronidazole 5 day course is enough or if I should continue it until the yellow completely disappears.

Turkey w/ blckhd - 5 days Metronid. still yellow poop?

I just completed a 5 day (500mg/day) course of Metronidazole for my turkey with blackhead. The bird is MUCH improved (color returned to its head, not droopy, solid poop, etc.) - but its poop is still somewhat yellow. It isn't the BRIGHT yellow that it was - it is more like a yellow chalk dust...

    Blackhead in older turkey

Not only is she alive, but really her only symptom is the sulphur colored poop. Otherwise, she looks/acts normal. Perhaps because she is older? Thank you though for the info. Two more questions: 1. Can I treat my ducks with safeguard or valbazen? 2. If I treat my chickens with safeguard...

    Blackhead in older turkey

Also, can I use Wazine to worm them - does it take care of the same worms as valbazen or safeguard? Thanks again.

    Blackhead in older turkey

I have a small flock (1 tom, 4 hens) of heritage bronze turkeys. One of the hens has come down with blackhead. I have her isolated. They are older birds - almost 1 year old. Can anyone tell me the dosage for metronidazole for the older bird? Or have any other possible treatments. I tried...

Redwood Incubators - Information, help, for sale and wanted

I don't know which company actually made the unit - perhaps Leahy? But it was sold under a number of brand names - Sears being one of them. Somewhere on this site, someone has uploaded a copy of a service manual for this unit. But I don't remember where. it isn't complicated though to figure...

Redwood Incubators - Information, help, for sale and wanted

Your incubator looks identical to my own. Mine is a Sears FarmMaster. It was made in the 50's. Your door, glass, hinges, vents, light switch, right down to the thermometer in the glass is the same. My guess is that on your thermometer, there is a second 'hook' for a wet bulb thermometer and...

    losing chickens 1-2/week

I can try to get some tomorrow - but their poop looks pretty normal. There is nothing out of the ordinary.

    losing chickens 1-2/week

Thanks all for the insights (cocci and Safeguard/Valbazen). I will get on both immediately! Another couple of quick questions: 1. Corid is intended for cows/calves - I assume then that: no eating eggs while they are on it (5 day treatment) and use the same mixing formulas as for calves...

    losing chickens 1-2/week

I have checked for lice/ectoparasites and haven't found any. That was my first inclination in fact. It is unlikely that they are encountering poison - we don't use any on our farm. However, we did only recently move it (<1 year). It could be possible that there is something residual in the...

    losing chickens 1-2/week

Over the past few weeks, I have been losing birds. Most are young (between 18 and 24 weeks - almost ready to lay). The pattern has been the same. I find a bird in the coop that is VERY lethargic, it won't eat or drink and by the end of the day it is dead. There doesn't seem to be any gradual...

    Probably owl problem

I have been losing chickens a a fairly consistent clip now for the past few weeks (maybe 2-4/week). I am beginning to suspect an owl. I have a mixed age/breed flock - some young, some older birds. I let them out in the morning. I can keep tabs on them during the day pretty well. They coop...

Redwood Incubators - Information, help, for sale and wanted

Here is a picture of the spring I was talking about. It is mounted on the inside front corner of the cabinet near the top. It is also connected to the box-like unit in the photo. The red wires off the bottom run into the double switch/pilot lamp unit (picture is the front of this unit, the...
