My son is working on his FFA SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) and has been doing quite well with egg sales. He has expanded and now as he prepares for winter, he needs adequate housing to replace the mobile tractors he has been using.
Due to costs, a hoop house is the choice but living...
I just finished up my second hatch with the Ovation 56 EX. This hatch was more difficult than the last. The unit simply couldn't maintain 65% humidity even with "old school" tricks (added after the EX failed to maintain by itself). As point of reference, I had 13 wet chicks, several pips and...
I did get in contact with a live person at Brinsea and they will be sending a new fan and new/different evaporation block. I am now in the "experimental program" with Brinsea and have agreed to test with them.
I believe the lack of response is being caused by working with a company based...
The final out come from my first hatch was 32/34 eggs. I'm pleased with that. I continued to battle the humidity and checked on the unit every few hours around the clock to keep everything where it should be. To save the hatch, I ended up putting 2 small containers with distilled water and...
I spoke to Brinsea this morning and will be sending the unit back. The hose was not pinched. It continued to put water into the unit to the point it flooded the floor. I removed water 3 times from the unit because in it's attempt to get the humidity up, it pumped more and more water without...
I purchased an Ovation 56 EX and am having less that great results. I've previously hatched in a Little Giant. I'm on my first hatch with the Brinsea and all was fine until I went into lock down. Prior to lockdown, it maintained perfect temps (99.5) and humidity (40%). At lock down, after...
I live in Central Missouri so our winters periodically get very cold. I have two roosters that I would like to winter – gorgeous boys - but I don’t have an established house they can winter in because the established roosters won’t allow it. I would like to keep them. The two boys can’t winter...

I finally found what I believe is the problem. The new thermometer I purchased is running about 10 degrees off - too low. I just assumed it was accurate. From now on, I'm always using 2 thermometers so this never happens again.
I discovered the problem when I talked to the hatchery...
I have Amprol in my chicken first aid kit so I am switching to that.
I used exact measurements on the sulfa so I'm 99.9% sure it was correct. By switching to the Amprol hopefully I can cover more strains of Cocci. Maybe the Sulfa missed something
I have unfortunately lost 2 more chicks...
I have successfully brooded standard size chicks numerous times with a 1% loss rate.. I recently purchased 50 bantam chicks of mixed breeds. I purchased from a reputable hatchery so I'm sure the chicks were handled well.
Sadly, I have lost 15% in the first 4 days. The bantam chicks were...
I have a 8 month old Easter Egger that started acting oddly. Seven days ago she was in the coop and would stick her neck out and open her month similar to a fish out of water. When she would cluck it sounded a little hoarse. I isolated her gave her Braggs and Rooster Booster for two days...
