Yes, I got them when they were 2 days old. They lived in my bedroom for weeks, and spent all day, every day with me. This behavior is new, and its only Floyd that does it. When he grabs hold, I usually stay crouched or still and don't back down. Can't say the same for my toddler. Lol.
I have two male Cayuga ducks-Gary and Floyd. They are a year old and now Floyd will not stop biting. When he bites, Gary will actually nip at his feathers as if telling him to cut it out. I have tried picking him up and snuggling him, nudging him with my foot and just telling him to cut it out...
I lost my favorite hen yesterday as well to a hawk...I will be adding a guinea hen to our flock this spring to help "alert" the roosters and will be putting up owl statues. Today I played the radio in the garage in hopes that voices would keep it at bay. We didn't have a return visit but we will...
I just lost my favorite and most sweet hen to a hawk yesterday. It had another bantam pinned to the ground, 6 inches from our house on our covered patio. Bold move. That one survived when my friend ran out the door hollering at it. Cadbury hasn't been seen since so we assume it took her first...
I bought them from a local feed mill so I am sure they are not perfect breeds. I will post a picture in a bit. The silkies are tricky to get decent pictures of.
Ducks and turtles....no idea. Mine struggled with a cucumber once so I have no idea how they'd tackle a turtle. They are like garbage disposals though, so they may be at risk.
How "visible" do ducks (and chickens) need to be?
Probably not very visible at all....but you'll want to see them...
Are ducks complicated?
Ours are complicated in the sense that they make a mess of any water given to them, don't go in the coop on their own and they poop on my patio. My house is also a mess lately because I sit outside watching their silly antics all day long. Oh, and they will nibble on your...
I have 4 silkies-a white, a black and 2 blues. My black silkie is a hen for sure....sweetest little fluff ball with barely an comb or wattles. The grays look to both be roos. One is crowing and the other seems to look identical in regards to tail feathers and a red tint to the comb and wattles...
Choices would be between 3 EEs, barred rock, 2 RIR, speckled sussex, and a wyandotte. We also had a darker brown egg last Tuesday. (They just started laying....mostly curious about the pretty speckled one)
Our ducks are about 15 weeks old, males....they appear to "court" the hens, which just offends them. It's quite funny. They all share a coop and no fighting. The chickens stay out of the way of the ducks.
I have 2 hens that I know are laying, and do so every day. Tuesday we had a third egg (darker brown, not pinky brown like the usual egg) and now there hasn't been a 3rd egg since. What gives?
