    Chicks up to 7 days need 95 degrees. I am not sure your heat pad is keeping them warm enough. I have the same one that I use to proof bread but not for my chicks. It doesn't get warm enough.     That's pretty good. I would just stop the scratch. Some breeds are more sensitive to it than others. There are viruses that can cause liver disease, cancer, etc. Heart problems can also cause comb blackening because of lack of circulation. I guessed liver because of her messy bottom.

    I spray my hatching eggs down with Brinsea Incubation Disinfectant and this time I will use Oxine. Both diluted per directions of course. I know everyone has their own ideas, so when I sell eggs I will just send them as is and they can decide if they want to clean or leave them as is.
