Why Aren't My Chickens Laying? Here Are Your Answers!

After many months of getting 1 or 2 eggs a day from 17 hens and doing many hours of reading on this thread, I finally discovered that I was feeding my girls way too much corn and not enough laying feed! I have completely cut out the corn (except for an occasional treat) and my production has...

    Dogs eating chicken poo

My dogs love chicken poo! It's like a buffet when I let them out into the pasture, which I try not to do very often. My schnauzer also loves grasshoppers as much as the chickens do. Dogs will eat just about anything, I think. Needless to say, they don't "kiss" me on the face. yuk!

Help! Sick, impacted crop?? What should i do?

Do a search on impacted crops on here. There are threads that tell you what can be done. Not to discourage you, but we lost one of our favorite hens back in the spring from an impacted crop. I tried adding vinegar to her water and everything, but she was evidently too far gone. Hope you have...

    nest box material

I've had that problem too, and unfortunately sometimes they eat the eggs. I have tried straw and shavings, but I don't really like either one because some of my hens keep getting an impacted crop from eating it. I'm not sure what I'm going to try next. Maybe I should collect all of the dog...

Had to put a LOCK on my chicken coop

what a sad, sad world we live in! NH and MA - it's too bad that you can't even post a sign on your property without being in trouble with law enforcement, but criminals can get away with murder! as for the dogs/kids issue, I would call the sheriff, state DEA, & CPS. If local cops can't be...

    EE or Araucana??

After reading all of these posts and doing searches on the net, I definitely have EE's. I love them, they are all so different looking and very friendly. I love their tufts - I call them "old man sideburns". I would post pics, but can't figure out how.... Thanks for the info!

    EE or Araucana??

Wow, I feel really dumb, cuz I thought Aracaunas and EE's were one and the same (just different terminology). hmmmmm. Do they both lay colored eggs? We got 4 baby "aracauna" chicks back in March from a feed store and they are starting to lay blue eggs. Are they really EE's? (I don't really...

    First egg

:ya We got our first egg from our new batch of pullets yesterday! Our little golden laced bantam was sitting in one of the nest boxes and I laughed at her; alas! the laugh was on me! later I discovered a tiny little egg where she had been sitting! it's so cute beside the huge BO eggs!

They're all finally in the same hen-house!

I am finally able to get my "young" girls to stay in the same house as the "older" girls! I'm hoping they will all become one flock soon, instead of two separate flocks.
