Weak chicken - have taken to vet - salpingitis? Internal layer? Laid a HUGE egg / walks like a penguin

Thank you. I was actually putting some of that stuff in her food. It’s so nice to hear someone give me this suggestion though so I know I’m on the right track!

Weak chicken - have taken to vet - salpingitis? Internal layer? Laid a HUGE egg / walks like a penguin

Updating this as things happen for anyone that may come looking for answers in the future. Gertrude continued to decline so I took her to another vet for a second opinion. Not surprisingly, they confirmed a huge inflammatory event in her abdomen. They gave me gabapentin, more Meloxicam, and...

Weak chicken - have taken to vet - salpingitis? Internal layer? Laid a HUGE egg / walks like a penguin

) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) She is a 4 year old braHama. When I noticed her, she was underweight at about 4-5 pounds. 2) What is the behavior, exactly. This began in September. I noticed she didn’t come out for...

Slow crop / lethargic / scoliosis - have gone to vet

Yes. 20 ml every 12 hours. She’s also getting some emeraid food. I checked her crop just now and it’s the first time it’s been emptied since this entire thing began. So maybe this is just the worst of it and she’ll pull through?

Slow crop / lethargic / scoliosis - have gone to vet

Not well at all. She is still with us but she is weak, hasn’t been eating other than the stuff I’m dripping in her beak, and isn’t really interested in doing much other than standing in her little box.

Slow crop / lethargic / scoliosis - have gone to vet

This all stated about two weeks ago. Tina is a 1.5 year silkie mix. We had some hot days here in Oregon but everyone seemed fine. A couple of days later tina seemed slow and lethargic. I separated her and noticed her crop wasn’t emptying and she had a huge mass. I followed up with some oil and...

Test Came Back Negative for Marek’s - Still has trouble ealking

I wanted to give a quick update - I took petunia to another vet who I had worked with in the past who is an hour away. They took some better X-rays and Informed me that her back looked a bit kinked. The vet assumed some sort of injury. She did state that there wasn’t evidence of new bone which...

Test Came Back Negative for Marek’s - Still has trouble ealking

So the newest symptom is her flipping herself over. She is using both legs a bit more but tends to rely on her right one. Her left continues to be drawn up underneath her. X-rays showed nothing out of ordinary according to the vet.

Five-month old Australorp suddenly lame. Update: Now another pullet going lame!

Yeah I ran into the same dead end as you did. All my girls are pets and I don’t have a rooster so I don’t sell or give away my girls. Another one of my main flock (Debbie) is already MS/MG positive so I figured they’re mine until they go into the big coop in the sky! Thanks for all the info!

Five-month old Australorp suddenly lame. Update: Now another pullet going lame!

Quick question - I treated one of my girls with endocox because corid wasn’t working. This was about 3 weeks ago. I assume I’m in the clear to use denegard? I know it’s never 100% certainty but I just want clarify that you shouldn’t use them TOGETHER vs using them at separate times. Or does it...

Lethargic / “ticking” head / no appetite / wry neck

Creamsicle is about 4 months old. not vaccinated against Marek’s since she was a gift from someone’s farm. I noticed her Tuesday. Hunched over, ruffled, and isolated. I grabbed her (usually friendly anyway) without too much drama. I started giving her corid in the water and some drops in her...

Is the leg broken / dislocated? Or is it the hip?

A final update for anyone in the future, the test came back positive for Marek’s. It was through IDEXX and they test for disease specific antibodies. I called to double check this didnt mean she would ping positive due to her vaccination and they said it would only test positive if the disease...

Is the leg broken / dislocated? Or is it the hip?

She says she’s experienced but I have also never heard of splayed leg at this age. I know that if she’s vaccinated, she’s going to test positive for it if I have her tested. I’m at a loss because a second opinion vet is over an hour away. Im honestly at a loss.
