Five-month old Australorp suddenly lame. Update: Now another pullet going lame!

Yes i remembered about June. (Especially after i re-read & recorded all your reporting in my "notes")! I assumed the rest of the flock are all still asymptomatic since you hadnt mentioned otherwise. But i asked anyway since its generally not good to assume. Re the pullets' concise but still lengthy medical records, if its ok with you, i decided to wait a while longer before posting that here, until you know what you are fighting. I still have all the notes, & will add all you have reported since.

That's a pretty cool thing you are doing for @azygous. :thumbsup

I had really hoped the Denagard would relieve May's symptoms. When it didnt help her after a few days treatment, i felt sure her problem wasnt MS. @texsuze please do research denagard as treatment for MG & MS. The med is only approved for swine, not poultry, in the u.s. Mainly that means your vet likely cant recommend without possibly risking his license. On the other hand, Tiamulin (active ingredient in Denagard) Has been approved & used for poultry in europe for over 30 years now. Many studies have been done documenting its effectiveness in knocking out mycoplasma symptoms. I used it personally against MG and vouch for its 100& effectiveness. Before this thread moves on from the mycoplasma subject, I was going to repeat the following info on this thread, even if @texsuze hadnt mentioned the problem in their flock, for the benefit of any future readers that discover this thread. Here goes. TIMAMULIN CO-ADMINISTERED WITH SOME ANTI-COCCISTATS CAN CAUSE A LETHAL/FATAL REACTION. TIAMULIN IS SAFE TO GIVE ALONG WITH CORID (AMPROLIUM), BUT POTENTIALLY FATAL WHEN COMBINED WITH THE OTHER ANTI-COCCIDISTATS. If u are treating chicks on medicated starter/grower feed, make sure the medicated feed contains amprolium & not another anticoccidistat. Otherwise, denagard has been shown to be a miracle cure for the SYMPTOMS of the mycoplasmas. Chickens still remain carriers, but tiamulin treatment will allow them to live symptom free.

Quick question - I treated one of my girls with endocox because corid wasn’t working. This was about 3 weeks ago. I assume I’m in the clear to use denegard? I know it’s never 100% certainty but I just want clarify that you shouldn’t use them TOGETHER vs using them at separate times. Or does it have a lifetime ban of using denegard cause I used endocox and not corid??
Edit: endocox contains Toltrazuril

Hi @MoosePijamas. With the ionosphore anticoccidistats, the combination with tiamulin is potentially lethal only if administered SIMULTANEOUSLY. Both meds completely clear the system (liver) within a few days.
Before i continue, i want to emphasize i am by no means a walking encyclopedia of chicken knowledge. However, my brain has always seemed to crave reading & learning, so research is easy & fun for me. (Still second to watching live chicken tv.!😁) To answer your question, the first thing i did is look up "endocox active ingredient." Which led to "toltrazulir" as the active ingredient. Which led to " toltrazulir is a member of the group of synthetic triazines not related to any other anticoccidial drug." After some more digging, i unfortunately hit a dead end; couldnt find any info re if "toltrazulir is compatible with tiamulin." The info may be there somewhere in internet land, & i would try to find your answer if i were u. I did learn more interesting info about toltrazulir, but no need to elaborate on here, other than it is very effective on other diseases in other animal species too.
Re denagard as option for mycoplasma treatment, my intent in mentioning med was for those chicken tenders who want to keep & not cull their flock. Want to make sure that those treating for MG & MS understand that ANY med you use Tylan (tylosin), Denagard (tiamulin), etc. only treats the symptoms of the disease. Your birds will remain carriers for life, & any new birds you bring in will likely also contact the disease, especially unless u keep your flock on monthly preventative dose. And please please PLEASE dont ever sell or give away any carrier birds, therefore inflicting stress & heartbreak on others when they also confront the disease. If u choose to sell live chickens, you MUST cull your entire flock and start over. 😭 That also applies to hatching eggs; since myco can be transmitted within the egg. The treatment info ive mentioned is only for those who desire to keep their backyard flock members & allow them to live out their happy chicken lives. Oh and btw Denagard has zero days egg withdrawal. Completely safe to eat eggs while treating. @azygous i do find it interesting that Tylan treatment seemed to restore June to full health, and temporarily eased May's symptoms too. You may also be perplexed by that result. I understand that mareks supresses the immune system allowing "bad bugs" to more easily move in. But still----. One more thing re Tylan. I came across a study this morn that said "tylan soluble is effective treatment in young stock (for mycoplasma), but seems to be less effective in older stock, UNLESS given at the acute early stage of the disease." I found that very relevant, since most people who have mycoplasma within their flock probably dont know in the beginning what they are dealing with. (I certainly didnt). I feel like its mostly time to move on from the mycoplasma subject now, since this thread belongs to azygous, & in her continuing quest to find answers, her pullet has tested negative. I would be happy to post links to those desiring further research, IF i knew how 🥴 It surely must be easy to do so, but staring at the available icons & symbols i see hasnt yet enabled me to figure it out.

U are welcome; i am also learning a lot! On that note, how do i respond to other's posts with another option besides the "thumbs up 'like'" button? Im referring to the ♥️ (love), "I" for informative, etc. Have only ever responded to others posts with "like" because thats only option ive seen on my screen. 🥴

Yeah I ran into the same dead end as you did. All my girls are pets and I don’t have a rooster so I don’t sell or give away my girls. Another one of my main flock (Debbie) is already MS/MG positive so I figured they’re mine until they go into the big coop in the sky! Thanks for all the info!

I'm not sure I'm at the same capacity as you.. but this expresses my feeling also. :highfive:

You do seem to grasp things fairly well though and I HOPE that you will consider pulling together and writing/posting some KEY articles during your time here! :pop

Thank you @Allsfairinloveandbugs for helping to make this thread more informative.
A real life who dun it medical mystery.. I tend to be a Debbie downer prognosis wise.. But your one gal recovered (from her symptoms)! I'm learning tons too from your testing/posting/CARING efforts. Thank you also for sharing this journey with us. Still pulling for y'all! :fl

Plus sending healing uplifting energy your way! :hugs
