Five-month old Australorp suddenly lame. Update: Now another pullet going lame!

It is a real life who-dun-it. Many mystery writers write a novel and don't even know how it will turn out until they get to the end of their writing. I'm as anxious as everyone as to how this will all end.

I started May on Tylan 50 again. She had her third dose today. Two more days.

This afternoon, I brought her inside and let her sun herself in the garage window. She seemed a bit improved, but later it proved to be a fluke. She was sitting with both legs tucked under so she was more upright, looking quite normal at a glance. But later, when I returned her to the run, her leg was splayed out behind her again.

The Marek's test kit didn't come in today's mail. How many of you have to drive twelve miles round trip to check your mailbox?

We have to drive about 20 miles round trip to the post office. A bit of a pain, but worth it to live out here. Once you get the test, how long until you get the results?

With all of this love and attention, I sure hope she survives and comes back from this illness.

I do not know how long the lab work will take. The MS lab test was done in less than three days once they received the test swabs I sent in the mail to them.

Before they installed our banks of mail boxes by the interstate, I had to drive thirty miles round trip to the post office. As you say, it's worth it for the peace and quiet and seclusion.

How is May doing today?

I tried a new harness and restraining system to keep May upright so she wouldn't drag herself around mopping up poop. I had to be on the phone all morning, so I just checked her and she had escaped the restraints. I swear. Houdini. She may be paralyzed, but she sure has acrobatic ability.

May is feisty. After finding her out of her restraints, (she hates the chicken chair with a passion I didn't know chickens had), I left her out on the ground. She seems content to propel herself around with her wings. She's pooping, so she must be eating and drinking.

The Marek's test kit was only just shipped today, so still a few more days until it gets here. Meanwhile, I finished with the Tylan 50 and I gave her the last of eight doses of the anti-viral acyclovir, and those didn't change her condition at all from what I can tell. Now I'm going to give her vitamin E every day for the time being. That's about it. I can only try to be patient until the test kit comes, and then we'll see how that shakes out.

June, who had started to go lame, has continues to be asymptomatic. And April, who, by the way, is the Australorp version of Pearl, continues to be unaffected. Su-su remains herself, still doting on all three pullets.

Are you giving her vit B? I have not read all the posts so apologies if you have already answered.

Yes, I tried giving her B-complex for weeks. It didn't seem to make any difference. She's not getting B now. Just E.
