Ok, you asked for it!!!! I have always used an incubator, so when my beautiful Blue Orpington hen decided she wanted to go broody, I took her egg away and told her to go play with the rest. Then my darling Splash Silkie decided she would do the broody thing too. I took her eggs away...

I thought I was up to my eyes in eggs.......but I only get four a day!!! LOL....I'll be getting lots more soon, I have really young hens. Anyway, have you tried freezing them? You can scramble them and put them in the freezer. A nice idea for anyone who likes to bake and the receipe calls...
Do all Silkies have turquoise earlobes? I have five Silkies that I hatched out this summer and only the white one has turquoise ears......are the others just late bloomers???
Got home from work this morning to find a large Great Horned Owl inside the chicken run!!! We have bird netting that we keep over our runs, but the owl must have found an overlapping section and got in. Once inside, he couldn't find his way back out! Thankfully all the chickens ( Lavender...

Can the foot be straightened manually? If so, why not try making a splint out of popsicle sticks and use some vet wrap to attach it. Maybe with time and growth, the leg would improve. In the meanwhile, I've seen several one legged birds that seem quite happy with life and make out pretty...
Wow! Glad I came across your picture! I have a Maran hen that was hatched beside her sister hens that were classified as Black cuckoo Marans, but she looks identical to yours! I've been assuming she is a Golden Cuckoo Maran........so, what's the winning answer! I adore her....she is docile...
Patti, do you have a friend with a Roo? Maybe you could put your Roo in with hers for a bit until he learns what it's all about. That would give you a chance to observe your hens with him gone. Another thought would be to trade him with someone else's Roo and see how your hens get along. If...
