    The ducks are all female and 3 1/2 years old. They are fed Naturewise 16% flocksheild with a scoop of brewer’s yeast along with daily kitchen scraps. Additionally, they free range on about an acre for a few hours a day.

    Okay great! Mostly likely then they’ll take him and let him settle in for a bit and then add some hens. I was thinking possibly that they could have both the rooster and hens but keep them in separate coops at night. Would that help with aggression issues? Also how many hens would you recommend...

    Yes they’re strongly considering it, but we’re hesitant only because he had gotten beat up so badly by the last hens he lived with. I’ve read that roosters can he happy alone, but if that’s not the case, I’ll make sure they will get some hens for him. I just want him to be happy.

    Based on the other responses, I’m thinking that’s most likely what he is. He’s very docile and likes to be pet and held, so maybe he’s just too easy going to stand his ground against the hens.

    He was attacked terribly by the hens in his coop at the barn he lived at (they actually thought he was dead). Thankfully he’s been showing great improvement and he seems like a happy guy now.
