    Splitting an adult GF flock

I have 5 gf in a chicken run; one female and 4 males. I would like them to reassume free ranging (they were free ranging but kept leaving our property for the female. Now I have the female with them). I want to let 2 males out of the coop. Any tips on splitting the flock? They are very...

How to introduce Keets to Adult Guineas and Chickens

UPDATE: My husband arrived home from work and walked with me into the paddock where the keets were hiding. We have had heaps of rain, so the grass and weeds are taller than we are. He spotted the three remaining keets. We caught them and carried them to the poultry run to join the other 4...

How to introduce Keets to Adult Guineas and Chickens

Well we had an adventure today. I let our 8 week old keets out and turned my back for an hour or so. They had disappeared! I finally found them but could not coax them into a cage so was able (with difficulty) to catch 4 and put them in their run. I hope the other three turn up to stay close...

How to introduce Keets to Adult Guineas and Chickens

I have 5 adult Guinea Fowl in one poultry run and moved 7 keets into the adjacent run. The adults are curious about the keets. I will post here when I let the adults out to continue free ranging. History: Our adult gf were not spending much time on our property because of the female across the...

Wanting to know more about an old incubator

The motor works; my husband fixed it. We intend to see if we can get it operational. It needs a very big clean up. If you like, we can compare notes.

Opened egg- surprise live chick inside

Great news! The chick hatched after hours of struggle and is going well. She is almost a day old, so put her in small brooder box with week old chicks. They started pecking viciously so now she is in separate box with 3 day old chicks.

Opened egg- surprise live chick inside

I feel your struggle. We have been watching this chick hatch for 30 hours. She is ALMOST out of the shell. She is fighting to get out of a very small egg.

Chicken beak showing but need help!

I have exactly the same situation. This egg is a very small egg from a very young chicken. It has been about 14 hours or more since it broke through the shell. Fingers crossed. I just don’t like the idea of intervention.

    Chick deformity

My day old chick has a curled foot. When I put him in the brooder with nine other newly hatched chicks they IMMEDIATELY started pecking him. I removed him and have now taped his curly foot. He can now walk, but doesn’t look like he can stand. Should I keep him separate from the others until...

    incubator overheating

I know this is an old post. Are you still using the Janoel24? I am in Queensland and today is hot (34 C). The temp reading is 39.7 and is flashing H. It is Day 21 of the incubation and I have already had eggs hatch.

    Blood around pipp

The black chick who fought SO HARD to hatch over 2 days lived through the night! I read somwhere about pasting so this morning I took a moist paper towel and wiped his vent. The blood chick THRIVED overnight and has been shifted to the brooder box!

    Blood around pipp

I am new to this forum and new to incubating. We set 15 eggs on 29 Feb and 7 of them have hatched. The most recent one had blood around the crack, but she just hatched now. She is totally exhausted and I can see spots of blood on her. I will leave her be for now. Two pics attached. One just...
