Egg color experts - How did this happen?

Same thing happened to me last year. 6 chickens, 4 breeds (2 were EE). Several months of good/steady egg production and then lo and behold! Green egg started showing up. I initially thought that ALL were laying and somehow one started laying a DIFFERENT color, but the veterans here set me...

    My hens are useless...

Same problem here - 6 hens, all 18mo old. One egg a day (from only one hen, they all lay different colors) maximum for over two months now. I'm thinking in the spring, I will rotate out 3 for 3 new ones and continue like that year after year.

How to change the pecking order?

I had the same problem, but no real way of isolating anyone. It seems, after about 6 months, that things have settled down.

    No eggs for MONTHS

My chickens are about 18 months old and the first year of eggs was GREAT. They slowed down a LOT in July/Aug due to Texas heat and then all but one STOPPED. They were all molting, but how long does it take??? I've only gotten one egg a day (from the same hen, I can tell by color/size) for two...

I would really love to have eggs again.... Help..

Same thing is happening here! I have six 18mo hens, all began laying well over a year ago. Productivity went down due to summer heat (Texas), but now it's gotten even worse! I'm lucky if I get one egg every other day. And it seems to be from one hen only (I can tell by the color/size). Now...

Keeping backyard flock productive/profitable - what to do w/ the Old Girls

Yes, it would only be 2-3 hens per year and I don't (yet) own a pressure canner. But I have a "deer freezer" and a few chickens would fit fine. My daughter is 13. It was interesting how she handled the whole butchering of the roo thang... she was adamant that she wasn't going to be home...

    Pecking order, bullying

Good advice, thanks! My feed and water are circular w/ plenty of room all around, but my roosts ARE staggard. I think I might just try removing one (they're plenty long for all) and see if that helps. But I spend a lot of time just sitting, watching. And Lacey is pretty much a bully all the...

Keeping backyard flock productive/profitable - what to do w/ the Old Girls

I'm not "there" yet, but definitely need to plan for and prepare the family for the future.... My six hens are 16 months. They provide more than enough eggs for the family, I enjoy having extras to give as gifts and occasionally sell. Six seems a good number for us. I do not want to keep...

    Pecking order, bullying

Looking for chicken advice.... I have six 16-month old hens, all are laying well. Lacey definitely rules the roost and Mrs. Flores is at the bottom of the pecking order. She's a MESS! Has had no feathers on her back or head for several months now, thanks to Lacey. I was hoping they'd work it...

    Tan eggs, now green!

Thank you for the compliment on my "pretty EE"! She's always been my favorite. I named her Bossy because from day-old, she was the biggest and the most assertive. A few weeks after I moved them out to their "big girl" coop (I'd say they were 3 months), something happened and the ramp to the...

    Tan eggs, now green!

As requested, here are some photos.... let's see if I get it right, I'm a noob! Below is a photo of my 6 hens, one of the ones in question is in the foreground. This photo is less than a month old, they are all about 9 months in age. And this photo is of the eggs that I have been getting...

    Tan eggs, now green!

This is the FIRST egg that wasn't in the tan/brown range I've ever gotten! I actually think she is Ameraucana (if there is a difference). Got her from Ideal Poultry. So..... either she's been laying all along and now the color changed (is this possible?) OR - she hasn't been laying and...

    Tan eggs, now green!

I have 2 Araucanas, 2 Cuckoo Marans, 1 Wyandotte and 1 Krainkoppe. All born in March, began laying in August. I get about 4 eggs a day ranging from very pale tan, to dark brown. Today, my haul included 3 of the expected colors, and a GREEN egg! They haven't had anything different/unusual...

    Ameraucana lays brown eggs?

Thanks, everyone, for all the great info and warm welcome! I bought the chicks from Ideal Poultry. I don't MIND that the eggs aren't blue, I am enjoying my girls (and their eggs!) no matter what, but I will give it some more time (in case I am somehow wrong about how laid what egg), and then...

    Chickens Eating Eggs ?

I have six chickens of 4 different breeds who were born mid-March, and they are just starting out too. I only get 1-2 eggs per day (of varying colors, so I THINK 2-3 hens are laying), so I am just waiting patiently for them to get up to speed!
