March 7th hatch along. Newbie :)

I set my eggs on the evening of March 4th myself! Hope everybody's hatch goes well! I set 15 eggs originally and have removed 2 duds. Everyone else looks happy and healthy swimming around in their eggs. I love seeing how much they grow from day to day!

    Ok for baby chicks?

They should be ok. Chicks can handle more than you might think. Even if they get a little cool they'll cuddle up together under the light and stay warm. Mine are 6 weeks and completely off any light and out in the coop. They seem to do great, I'm sure yours will too!

    Hen or rooster?

Yeah then the first one is a cockerel. In my experience saddle feathers take a lot longer to show up than sickle feathers do. To me it is pretty obvious that the sickle feathers are present and being as red as it is in the comb and wattles is even more of a reason. Pullets don't get that red...

Light bhrama chick boy or girl?

If your seeing a wattle and it looks like comb is reddening a little I'd say it's a cockerel

    Chicken breed suggestions

Easter Eggers are your best bet. You can find them at feed supply stores as day olds. They'll be labeled as americauna or amauracana or some variation to this. But they will be Easter Eggers. They are not a "breed" but a cross of different breeds that lay mostly green to blue eggs. They can lay...

    Hen or rooster?

How old are these birds? Are they both the same age? First one (looks like cuckoo marans mix) looks to be a cockerel. His sickle feathers look to be coming in all over the back of his neck. And second one looks like pullet. Enjoy!

Barred Rock chicks- cockerel or pullets

I think a lot of times you can tell chick sexes by two weeks. It you go by a combination of traits and not just look at one thing. I hatched 5 BR and was able to tell 100% which was which by two weeks. Head spots never worked for me. This is what I go by. Comb and wattle development. Even by...

    Rooster or Hen?

She is definitely a pullet. No sign of any comb or wattle development which should be obvious by now. NOT A COCKEREL :celebrate

    What cockerel should I choose?!

I can totally see that! I feel so lucky that I got an amazing rooster in my first try. He's a great fella, so great with the girls and not agressive at all. So maybe he rubbed that off on to some of his sons!

    What cockerel should I choose?!

It's funny because my two BO crosses are the most curious and nippy of my cockerels! From what I've seen that doesn't sound like a great thing at this point. So think they're gone. They sure are pretty though! And EEs can be sexed a lot easier than some people think. I was 90% sure of my sexing...

    What cockerel should I choose?!

Ya know, I never thought about it that way! As I said I think I'm going to keep the CCL x SF cross because he is pretty and seems ok temperament wise. So at least I'll be able to get rid if more than half of them soon!

    What cockerel should I choose?!

Yeah I'm considering one other crossbreed because I like the way he looks and he seems to have a decent attitude so far. If I end up disliking him I'll get rid of him. All of the others are very similar in size and are all very healthy looking. So at this point it's kinda like a crap shoot since...

Eggs taking to long to develop

You can't calibrate the ones on the incubators. All you can do is get an accurate thermometer and put it in there and then see how far off the one on the bator is and just keep that in the back of your mind. If you want to calibrate a thermo just Google the ice water test for thermo calibration...
