the ROOSTER on the left has comb/waddle and the earlobe part.. and the HOPEFUL HEN has her comb and waddle but NO droopy 'earlobe'. Im new to chickens and hope no earlobe means hen.
does anyone have or know of anyone in Northern (LP) MI.. near Alpena.. with BUFF ORPHINGTON HENS for sale?? I dont want chicks, I want full grown hens and they seem to be sparse in my neck of the woods.
Mine all kind of grew at different intervals. They all (3) got their feathers in differently, combs/waddles in at different times. The one I thought should have been a rooster ended up being a hen.. and vice versa with another. I did hear that before (also that roosters get the combs in later...
the males take longer to grow their combs.. he has skinnier tail feathers so he is a rooster. But the Giants have yellow bottoms on their feet, thats the only way to really tell if they are true giants. Mine also has white tips on his wings and a paler face. :)
I feed my chickens scraps in a large black feed bowl (like the ones for horses, etc) but theyre constantly dumping it over and once the food hits the ground they tend not to eat it and it mixes in with their bedding. I've been trying to figure out a way to 'mount' the food but I have not been...
OK so I went out and throughly checked them over and the one with the small comb is the male... he has longer feathers on his chest and pointed-tipped tail feathers like males are suppose to have. Also males (supposedly) take longer to grow their combs/waddles I am 100% sure he is a male. Just...
