So great to hear of a fellow BO flock in Miami!
Miami-Dade county states 10 hens no roos, I believe the enclosure has to be 10 feet from any structure where ppl reside. It's posted on the county website if you google it. Depending on what city in Miami you are in you will also have a separate...
I'm curious about this. I've got two BO's, one has been broody and unbreakable. (I've always regretted getting just two, when I have room for up to five.) I considered getting fertilzed eggs, but it's late December and I have had trouble finding them in season. Added with the fact I'm in the...
I'm also a fan of plastic. Since Florida is so damp and warm, wood rots away very quickly. You can easily find yourself spending more on repairs and replacement coops.
This is Porquette, our 6 month old. I have been keeping a close eye on our girls as we are waiting for eggs. Today I noticed longer feathers on her tail. I did check to see if they were just loose and poking out further. Can you please check out these pics and help me tell if I am seeing signs...
Update: this morning she's back to normal. No treatment given.
???
I feel I should still start treatment, is this wise?
Could it be the side effect of the wazine?
My 11 week old. Wormed last week. Checked for pests.
She was fine yesterday. This morning a bit wobbly and lazy.
Now no appetite, lethargic, keeps one eye shut - although nothing appears to be wrong with it. No blood in stool & backside is clean. Nostrils are dirty but not clogged, & breathing...
Thank you all! Very helpful. Since I am a pirate (no BYC in our town) I don't want to attract code compliance with anything on the fence. Thankfully my neighbors love the hens and come over often to "bird watch".
I am going out to get a fresh pair of scissors after work today to use. All...
I know this has been posted several times but I'm still not sure. Im not against clipping. Only reason I wouldn't clip is because its another thing I have to do since hubby, uh... is a sentimental city slicker ;)
My two BO ladies are 10 weeks, they fly to roost. BUT they are big enough to fly...
Well I'll let you know what I come up with. I posted pictures of our coop and run - no wood there either. Sorry to hear about your mom's porch, an expensive fix no thanks to Mother Nature. Yes, it's a constant battle to keep standing in FL, no wonder it took so long to settle this state! Lol.
I had a dream my hubby brought home a goose to protect the chickens. Since I do the yard and animal chores (and have had bad experiences as a child with geese) it was more like a nightmare! Lol
I have
I have learned my tarp does this too. I go out in the heavy rain to relieve the tarp so it doesn't stretch my wire out with the weight. I'm hoping to get another layer so I'll be expanding the run anyhow. Hubby is against building with wood in FL. Working on an alternative plan.
