    Unlimited access to food?

use a hanging chicken feeder and keep a scoop full in it at a time. This gives me approx. 3-4 days of feed until I need to refill it.

    Feeding Pekin Egg Shells

My two females started laying a couple weeks ago. Not many eggs, so I've been cracking them and feeding them the shells. They go CRAZY when I give them the shells. I have to break it into small pieces so I can spread it out on the ground for them to share. Can I feed them shells from store...

    Last Shuutle launch

The space program itself got away from it's original intentions. Apollo 5 was "exploration". The space program got away from exploration with the space shuttles. Yes, the shuttle can carry a much larger payload, but was to much for exploration. NASA is talking about going back to rockets as they...

    Pekin Excavators

Quote: That's clean compared to what my two have looked like. I'll have to take a picture of them next time they get to digging.

    Pekin Excavators

It seems my two females are in the excavating business as they like to dig holes around their little pond and now around the hanging waterer. I've walked up on them only to find their heads and breast feathers covered in mud. For two WHITE ducks, they sure can get dirty. What causes them to do...

    Pekin Duck owners.....

Quote: My wife actually said this exact statement to our (2) Pekins when they flap their wings. Every once and a while they get frisky and get about 4" off the ground and land about 4" back on the ground from where they left off. This picture shows about as high as they will ever be above...

    Different Ducks in One Pen

Thanks folks. I may end just just doing Pekins and Rouens. Leave the bantams out the mix completely. Now I can just have more larger ducks.

    Different Ducks in One Pen

We currently have Pekins and I want some Call Ducks and my wife would like some Rouens. Can all (3) species live together in say a 12' x 30' pen? I was thinking maybe (4) of each or something like that.

    Duck Ponds

Quote: Yep and I like that. Seems it would make it easier for them to get out of. Did you just add dirt around the pond and put the stones in the dirt? Are all 4 sides of the pond like that?

    Duck Ponds

Figured up the gallons capacity of 8' x 16' x 1' (LENGTH x WIDTH x HEIGHT / 231 ), 957 gallons. I may just do (2) of the 270 gallon version and elevate it slightly above the ground for drainage or (1) big one and (1) small one.

How often to change pool water?

I have a large mix pan that I dump out every day. Once I do my new pen and larger pond, I'll do much less, but do some sort of vac daily.

    Duck Ponds

Quote: That looks awesome! What is the dimensions of your run? I priced a 13' x 30' pool liner and it's $100. I was thinking of making a pond 8' wide and maybe 16' long with 12" high sides. I don't see needing anything very deep, just need swim and play room.

    Duck Ponds

Quote: I have two ducks now, but I plan to increase that number to around 12 or so. The pen will be 25' x 50' and I'm thinking of sectioning it off into (2) 25'x25' sections. One side for the ducks and the other side for the chickens. Maybe even make one section bigger for the ducks.

    Duck Ponds

I thought about a pump and that seems the only logical means with having the pond sunk into the ground. I'm looking at something a decent size, Lowes has one of the plastic lawn pond that is 275 gallons and 96" x 66". It's 18" deep too. Currently, I have a large mix tub as a "pond" for my pair...
