We will just leave the page since an administrator removed the offer for plans. It's been fun to see our Oklahoma coop built in places like Hawaii and South Africa. We have sent out thousands of free plans! Spring always brings lots of requests, usually one or two a day! Since we've been doing...
I would like to remove our coop plans from the BYC coop pages so I will stop getting email request for plans. I can't find a delete anywhere. How do I do that? Thanks! https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/pemberley-at-the-little-red-farmhouse-my3jsonss-chicken-coop
Someone gave me these little feathered legged chickens for our farm yesterday. I really don't know what they are but they sure are pretty. Bantam is the smaller size, right? What breed do you think they are? Isn't this a rooster/hen pair? Our pet goat really likes them! Our egg layer...
Okay, I've been thinking about it and wondered if anyone has information on Coccidiosis in chickens? What are the symptoms and how a chicken or chickens might be treated? Also, if treated how long should we wait before eating the eggs again? We have had problems with cocci on our farm before.
We've never dewormed our chickens... what do you use to deworm chickens? No signs of mites and they all look and act healthy. I just went out this morning to let them out and found this second one. We have a son that is studying animal reproduction in college and he has no problem doing...
We lost a chicken last week and now have another one dying.
They look like they are very weak and just lay there. It took the first one almost a full day to die. They aren't limp but they don't want to move. The chickens are around 3 to 3 1/2 years old and are New Hampshire reds. I...
Critterrun,
Just send me an email at [email protected] and I will send you a copy of the plans. Around 20-25 chickens seems to be a happy number with our coop.
We are using Freedom Ranger chickens right now for meat chickens but had thought about using New Hampshire Reds instead and just butchering the roos and keeping the pullets for laying.
Has anyone used this breed for meat? How old were they when you butchered them? Could you tell a difference...
Oh well, I have 18 New Hampshire Reds out there laying eggs now. Maybe I should test out one of them as a meat bird.
I really wondering though if Cornish X or Freedom Rangers would be best. Anyone have experience with either or both?
We already raise our own beef, pork, and lamb so I guess it's time to venture into meat chickens too.
What breed do you feel makes the best meat chickens?
Is there a breed that is grows more naturally (but still quickly) than the Cornish X?
Males or female - any difference in raising or...
Welcome to Pemberley at the Little Red Farmhouse!
Yeah, I know it's not Jane Austen's Pemberley but for a chicken house we think it is pretty grand!
And besides Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth & Jane live there.
This is our coop story:
Our chicken house is 16' x 4' and 2' off the ground. My sweet...
My son just got his own baby chicks. He wanted some really special ones so he decided on Polish chicks.
He thinks they look like rock stars so these girls were named Blondie, Tina Turner, & Stevie Nicks.
Only a week or so old and this little one has a problem with it's bottom. It seems to be having trouble pooping. No pasty butt though. It's vent is protruding out. I had just cleaned it up in this pic by putting a little pressure on the side to relieve it and then washing it off with a...
I'm going to band my older hens before my pullets get old enough to lay. That way I can get my favorite breeds again and retire the older girls that might not lay as well. I plan on keeping my flock young. That way I can keep my egg/feed ratio up high. The bands will help me keep them straight.
I'm not concerned about them being official Ameraucanas. The ones I have and love are probably just EEs. I just wanted to know if any other breeds look similar but are not EEs.
The ones I saw look like this one.
