Chickortreat,
If it was out of season, I would have done the same thing. The only difference is I wouldn't have "hunted" rattlesnake, but disposed of a threat to my animals. Here in Colorado farmers can shoot deer out of season if the deer are eating their crops. I wouldn't want to push the...
Went out to check on the chicks. My wife walked about before me and as I got to the barn I saw something moving under my truck, and had seen a cottontail under there earlier and thought it odd that the baby bunny didn't take off when my wife walked by. I stopped to close the barn (really a metal...
Thanks bigoledude,
I like the feeder, what diameter hole do you think is right for chickens? That guy just cut a hole, I'm thinking 1 3/4" or 2" diameter? I looked at the fishnet site, but haven't decided if that is the way I will go. But it is an option.

Forgot to mention, right now I have 5 chickens eating that food, the new chicks are still in a brooder. Also, I haven;'t filled the feeder, but have only put 50 pounds in, so' they're dumping about 40-45 pounds in two days, not 100.
Thanks
Myke
We just moved out of town, 30 miles out with 35 acres and luckily has a 30x50 metal barn (ok, it was built for rv storage, but my chickens and rabbits are happy). I bought 5 more chicks and four rabbits from people at the county fair, got a pretty good deal. I have been going through food faster...
Well, one of the squirrels sat on my grill, chewed a hole in my kitchen screen and ate my last english muffin. They will be in season in a couple weeks, so I will be out with the pellet rifle getting my muffin and chicken feed back.

That's what I was thinking. I haven't noticed any rodents or sign of them, but we do have a flock of blackbirds that just moved in to the neighborhood. I might need to make sure the pen is more birdproof. When I built it I was concerned with foxes. We do have a lot of squirrels, but I didn't...
ChickieBooBoo, the feeder is out in their yard so I don't think they are carrying it in to the coop itself. In the coop I have nesting boxes on one side, haven't noticed any feed in them and roosts on the other side with pine shavings on the ground. It would be hard to find feed in the shavings...
I have seven hens and they went through a 50# sack of feed in one week? I have a automatic feeder I built, as they eat more food comes down. I notice they are scratching it out of the feeder, but there isn't 50#s laying around. I've never gone through that much feed in such a short amount of...
Congrats, I went out this morning to feed and saw 2 eggs in the nests. I posted earlier this week trying to figure out when I should start getting eggs, and here they are
No on the fake egg or golf ball, I will try to get something today. I will look at the combs, but my chickens don't let me pet them, do I need to work on that? When I enter the hen pen, they run around squawking.
I have a mixed flock of chickens I bought 5 1/2 months ago. When should I start expecting eggs? I put straw in the nesting boxes about a month ago. The last couple days I have seen one chicken sitting on the nest, but the rest just scatter the straw everywhere. I thought they started laying at...
I am still working on this, not sure if I will ever be finished, there's always something needing done.
The main building is my rabbit shed. I plan to have 2 bucks and 4 does. I am building the door today, doing some painting and if time permits putting wire roof on. I am going to add lattice...
dsqard, just phrase it right. Tell him he should go cruisin' for chicks. My wife would be better at convincing him than I would, she is very skilled at coming up with new ways to get her way and somehow I always end up thinking it was my idea?
