Just an updated on my disabled duckling. Due to the spinal deformity of his neck, he was so off balance, he could no longer stand, eat or drink unassisted. I thought he might be better if he could swim and exercise his legs. Sadly he was not able to swim without me holding him upright. I...
I can't say how much I appreciate all your help. Last night I was up several times to check on little Boo, he was on his back every time. I watch the other two ducks with him and it seems they are going out of their way to knock him down and trample over him. Today I ordered another dimmer...
Yes, I was thinking a type of scoliosis too! He hatched this way and you can feel his spine is curved. It's not muscular. He needs a little wheel chair with extra support on one side. He is on Electrolytes with vitamins and has been since day one, but I'll get some extra too.
I think I am going to have to order some extra vitamins for him then and another dimmer switch for the heat lamp so I can put him in his own brooder. The other two are just running around in there like crazy and knocking him over.
OK, I'll get some. I was just at TSC the other day and I won't be back until next Thurs (I am a distance from it). Perhaps Amazon has it. I am starting to feel like this little guy may not make it. Today he seems to be flipping over more and can't get off his back. I guess time will tell...
I recently hatched some Pekin ducks, all went well except for one that I had to hand-hatch. Sadly he/she hatched with a very twisted neck, likely congenital. Eventually the little guy managed to get up on his feet. The problem is he's very crunched up, he isn't fully extending his legs and is...
I got 2 Pekin Ducks when I got six chicks about five weeks ago, and, yes, WOW do they grow fast and they are just pooping machines!! LOL. I was able to move them outside after four weeks and they have their nice duck house to stay safe and warm in at night. When they were in with the chicks...
I hatched 6 (out of 9 eggs) Marans (all cute little fuzzy black one) and I have 6 Buff Opringtons (which were supposed to be Brahmas from TSC but they told me wrong) in with them. The Buffs are a couple of weeks older than the Marans, but they all get along just fine. :)
As for the ducks, I...
Yep, that's what I was thinking too with no leg feathers showing up. Stupid Tractor Supply , it would be nice if they knew what they were actually selling. Oh well, they are really nice birds and they will be a good addition to the flock.
Thanks for the input.
Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Nancy from Tennessee. I have been keeping chickens for just over a year now and they are the best! Right now I have 12 in the brooder (six I hatched) and another 8 out free ranging the property. I also have two little Pekin Ducks named Noodles and Flipper. LOL
I got six of these chicks at Tractor Supply and they are supposed to be Buff Brahmas but there are no feathered legs on any of them and one or two of them almost look like the feathers are some what frizzled. Anyone know what these guys are if they are not really Brahmas?
