I am new to chickens and started out by hatching out 10 australorp eggs. One of the chicks was born with slightly weak legs. Now, at about a week old his left leg appears very stiff, and today the toes on that leg are now crooked.
Is this something genetic? An injury? A vitamin deficiency?

That was a wonderful article. We are in the process of purchasing a 2 acre farm so we can do exactly the things your family is doing. I've had a garden for a couple of years and order our food from a wonderful local delivery service that delivers farm fresh foods from all over our state, but I...
Newlyweds: how's it going over there? Is it still just the one little guy? I would maybe leave it a little longer because your first pip was a little late (I think) and mine pipped over 3 days. Maybe my incubator had cold spots. Anyway, I finally gave up on my last 6 eggs and I found it very...
Hello all,
Newlyweds: congrats and good luck on your coming hatch!
We have 9 so far, and one more pipped. Here's a photo of a few. I thought it was so cute how the first thing the little ones do is try to go under the older ones, like they'd do with a natural momma. I think this one thinks he...
We have 6 hatched, 1 working it's way out (but it seems very tired and weak), 1 pip, and 8 more with no activity yet. We're on day 22. After seeing how dry the membranes were on the hatched chicks I can't help but worry about the others.
Ok, I guess it's only been a few hours. The first one took 12 hours, then I helped it zip. The others have been pipped for less than 8 hours. I have upped my humidity to a little over 70 because I was worried they're all drying out. I was reassured by your post. I think I need to get out of the...
I am worried. I wonder if my humidity has been too low all along. Or maybe the little birds are just too big for their eggs. They all seem to be pipping, but not able to zip and their membranes appear very white and dry. Should I be helping? watching? going out and leaving them to do their thing?
Ok, quick question: how do I post a photo. I clicked the (Img) button, and got some weird text that I don't know what to do with. Any help is appreciated.

daniellenoel,
I am so sorry to hear about your experience. If it's any consolation I have heard that many people aren't lucky their first time hatching
But I can easily imagine how sad you feel, as I have been on an emotional roller coaster since setting these chicks.
We now have one chick...
YAY! I HAVE A PIP! All is not lost! I am not going to be able to sleep at all tonight!
We've also been watching the webcam. My kids and I love it!
