Hi just wanting a few opinions, had my buff Orpington hatch 4 random eggs and there is a pure welsummee chick (pictured) I think it's a hen but could I please have some expert opinions it's the one top left
Yeah I see what you mean, it's aarge chick and has began moving quicker than any others I've hatched, last year I hatched and kept 21/24 so 4/5 this year would keep my success going!
I had a broody hen sat on eggs, but randomly laid an egg 3 days after I sat her on 5 fresh eggs. 3 hatched 4 days ago, and I put the egg which was 3 days younger in my incubator and has just hatched this morning, how do you suggest I add it to the 3 chicks with the broody hen?
Yeah i have an area in my house set up for if this happens, as i have had bad experiences before. Hopefully she will love them, do you know how many a hen can comfortabely look after?
Yeah i think i will do that, although I dont know exactly when the first 4 are going to hatch, or even if the one that was a few days behind is still there as an egg got smashed about a week ago which could've been any of them. I have a space ready in house to do this if it turns out like that...
Yeah when they are going broody i am moving them and putting eggs underneath them, but my concern is why so many have started gooing broody at once, very abnormal
Up until recently I have had hardly any broody hens, and when they do go broody snap out of it pretty quick. However in the last 2 months in my flock of 30 there about 5 broody hens, and when i set them on eggs they get upset and usually leave them or behave oddly like pooping on the eggs and...
Yet another post, I have 5 chicks due to hatch in a few days under a Copper Black hen and am wondering if it would be okay for me to add a few more chicks that i may buy 1-2 days old under then hen when the eggs hatch?
Any advice appreciated,
TIA
So i hatched 21/24 eggs in an incubator last year with 4/4 from under a hen, this year there are 5 eggs under a hen that has been broody for a long time and i think they are around day 17-18 of hatching, but one of them is 3 days younger than the 4 others, all fertile and growing. Is it okay for...
