Yet another post, I have 5 chicks due to hatch in a few days under a Copper Black hen and am wondering if it would be okay for me to add a few more chicks that i may buy 1-2 days old under then hen when the eggs hatch?
Any advice appreciated,
TIA

You have to put the chicks under her like the eggs. You need to make sure the mother takes them in because they won't survive without heat. The mom should take them in but watch her in the first few days in case she doesn't.

I have one that loves to adopt many more than hatched. I just set them down when she is out with her hatchlings and she talks to them and demands they join and they obey.

Yeah i have an area in my house set up for if this happens, as i have had bad experiences before. Hopefully she will love them, do you know how many a hen can comfortabely look after?
