Thank-you for the information. I am still in the planning stage and appreciate any ideas and suggestions. It's good to know the chickens can decide for them selves and I don't have to worry about supervising who sleeps where. Thanks, again.
I am sitting here with freezing nasty weather outside, dreaming about spring. We currently have a 16x17 foot run with a small 4x8 elevated coop inside. If we build another coop and attach it to the existing run how do the birds decide which coop to go to? Will they naturally divide themselves...
Our ADOR1 has been installed and running for about a week now. LOVE IT! It has worked perfectly, not one problem. Very pleased with this piece of chicken paraphernalia.
I see that you have been a member a lot longer that me, but this is your first post. I was facing the same decision with my run last week. Our main predator is hawks, and to a lesser degree: raccoons, coyotes, and neighborhood cats. We used hardware cloth on the sides but it is such a pain to...
I really like your set-up and that you can view it from your back deck. Great job. I am shopping for sand for my coop/run. Did you use any certain kind of sand? I seem to remember someone suggesting "river sand" and that "play sand" (like I found at Lowe's and Atwood's) was not recommended...
Very nice set-up! I love it. We considered getting a pre-built shed and converting it, but I just knew we could make one just as nice for less money. I was wrong. I wish we would have gone the way you did. Ours turned out great, but it was more work and cost more than I anticipated. Good...
Welcome. I'm pretty new here myself. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think I remember it is suggested 4 sq ft per bird. Your girls might be a little crowded in that coop. I'm no help with the Purina Coop. We kind-of made things up as we went along while building ours. I am very...
4 the birds - it took me 2 years to talk my husband into the donkeys, 2 years to talk him into chickens. I figure 2 more years and I can get goats! Got my fingers crossed.
Cydee66, that is a great idea. I think we need to do that. The coop is on the east side of a 12x16 potting shed so it is in the shade from early afternoon on. The extra light will be good.
4 the birds, we have taken into account the donkeys. They love to rub on everything. Our backyard is...
LOL Now my husband is considering a coragated metal roof. That would definately keep out critters. As for digging under - we are burying about a foot of hardware cloth and.... I have so much extra lumber that I scavenaged from local construction sites (taken from trash pile with permission)...
Hi BrOncOxraptOr, it's nice to have someone from Lawton to talk to. We are south west of Lawton by a few miles, but have a Lawton address. I just posted to you on the Okie thread, then saw this one. FYI: if you are going to use 48in 1/2 hardware cloth for your tractor, there is none in town...
