Hi - my light sussex hen has been hanging around the nest box for a couple of days. Tonight when I went to put the chooks to bed she was in the nest box. When I took her out she was on 3 eggs and has plucked the feathers from her chest. I am happy to let her sit on 3 eggs but I am a total newbie...
If they are not fighting seriously I'd probably leave them be to sort things out amongst themselves.
If there is real fighting then I'd try keeping them apart for a few days.
Good luck
I agree with the above. I introduced my last girl at night by placing her on the roost. Next morning I put her in a wire crate on the floor of the run with food, water etc. I did this for four days then let her out. Yes, there was a few minor pecks but she settled in well and I've had no other...
I have two sisters one of whom I am happy to give some eggs to as she is always there for me and family in many different ways. The other sister is very much in the mould of I see it, I want it. So, when she made comment about not having had any eggs from me I gave her one. She said - what you...

Only got my first girls in July so still on my steep learning curve

Question I have is - for the last week she has been sitting in the nest box for one or...

I took her to the vet last week as although her limp was not as bad she was sitting with her head hunched right into herself. She was bright enough when we were around, eating drinking and being one of the crowd but on her own she just looked fed up.
The vet...
Just quick update. Although not 100% yet Doris is much less lame than she was. Taking more of an interest and is out and about a bit more than she was.
Thanks for the help and support/ideas etc. You guys are great.
Nell
Thank you so much for your replies and support.
I have examined Doris's feet at great length and also asked a friend to look too. As far as we can see there is no swelling, redness, dark rings, broken skin or heat in her legs or feet.
The only thing I noticed was a small dark area on the top...
