Chook has a limp - any suggestions welcomed - Update 3/16

my big fat br roo has sprained his leg twice. both times when he and his brother try to cram out the pop door at the same time. add a hen or two trying to squish threw and somebodys bound to fall out the door. now when I open the door in the morning I try and slow the traffic jam down a little.

Nellie... that dark spot sounds like bumblefoot. It can be on the top... doesn't have to be on the bottom. I'd keep a eye on that if I were you. You know better than us what it looks like, but I thought I would pop in to tell you that bumblefoot's "black spot" can be on the top.

I have ANOTHER different week old chick with bumblefoot right now. I'm starting to think it is in the straw. I desinfect everything between uses. Anyways.

I hope she gets better everyday. Good luck!

Doris died yesterday afternoon.

I took her to the vet last week as although her limp was not as bad she was sitting with her head hunched right into herself. She was bright enough when we were around, eating drinking and being one of the crowd but on her own she just looked fed up.

The vet could find no evidence of injury or anything wrong with her. He said her heart rate was a bit raised but that may have been stress. He said her weight and everything was fine, so basically he had no idea. I was fortunate as he has hens himself and was quite knowledgeable and concerned. He could only think it maty be something neurological.

Anyway, She seemed to be getting a bit better but I found her yesterday still warm, she looked as if she had just fallen off her perch. Her comb was quite bluey purple so perhaps it was heart related.

I want to thank all of those who gave me advice and pm'd me - your support was great
