I'm so bummed! Our gold sex link Honey has been squatting for a week so I've been watching her like a hawk. Took the kids to the grocery store this morning and heard Honey squawking as soon as we got back. I ran outside just as she was leaving the coop and low and behold, there's a broken egg on...
About 2 weeks. I just feel bad for her because it seems like she is trying to get close to the group and she gets run off by one of them. The other two seem indifferent to her but our White Leghorn is always chasing her away.
We have 4 girls right now in our backyard flock. We originally took in 3 pullets and two of those turned out to be roosters, the other was our EE Ingrid. A week later I found a home for the roos and brought home 3 more pullets. The pullets from the second set all stick together and haven't let...
Ok, gotcha. They were all hatchery chicks and not bred by him, that much I know. I think he must have just gotten some sex links in the mix because it doesn't look like a RIR to me. He had some others that were definitely redder-looking. In any case, I'm happy as long as it's a pullet! :D
Could she possibly be a gold sex link? I was just researching sex links online and her coloring looks very similar. The guy I bought them from said it was a RIR but her coloring is so light, she's more of a buff color than red.
Three new ladies (?) arrived today and I'm really hoping they are all pullets this time! The guy I bought them from seemed pretty sure and did promise to exchange them if they are roosters. What are your thoughts?
I recently took in a few chickens and two of them turned out to be roosters! They are absolutely the sweetest birds and love to be held. Very friendly and will follow you all over the yard. They are about 4 months old and were hand-raised; fed only kitchen scraps and organic crumble. I'm not...
This is so disappointing, my daughter is going to be crushed :( As much as I don't want to believe it I know it's true as I heard one of them crow this morning. The lady I bought them from sold her ranch and is moving so I can't take them back. Hopefully I will be able to find good homes for...
Oh please don't tell me I have roosters! I'm not allowed to keep roo's and my daughter would be very upset to have to give them up :( What would be the best way to tell for sure?
Hi! I am brand new to chicken keeping and to this site, and I was wondering if someone could help me identify what breed my ladies are :) We just picked them up today and the
woman we got them from believes that 2 of them are part Rhode Island Red - the third hen she had no idea. They are about...
