Three new ladies (?) arrived today and I'm really hoping they are all pullets this time! The guy I bought them from seemed pretty sure and did promise to exchange them if they are roosters. What are your thoughts?

If those birds were direct from a hatchery, that would be one of the "red sex links" and all are guaranteed female due to coloring...
but if from a backyard, it's up in air however it just looks so pullety and not seeing any darker red on the wing patch or on back.
Could she possibly be a gold sex link? I was just researching sex links online and her coloring looks very similar. The guy I bought them from said it was a RIR but her coloring is so light, she's more of a buff color than red.
Possibly. The problem is, if she was bred by that person, then it's not even a sex link by any color or name.. Sex links are basically "carefully bred" to produce a single generation in-demand bird sexable by down color. They don't breed true as a result though.
However, breeding a red or gold sex link to say, a RIR will produce birds like that..... in both sexes.
That's why I said if she came direct from hatchery, it's a girl no question... but if the person bred her, it's not a guarantee however she looks like a pullet anyways.
Ok, gotcha. They were all hatchery chicks and not bred by him, that much I know. I think he must have just gotten some sex links in the mix because it doesn't look like a RIR to me. He had some others that were definitely redder-looking. In any case, I'm happy as long as it's a pullet!![]()
