Hi Hkeibard-
I'm on the east coast of Central Florida, so our weather should be pretty similar. Heat has been a huge concern for me, days and nights. Cold? What's that? :) I thought I'd chime in and share my setup, even though it's still evolving, and I'm only two years into this adventure...
Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the slow response. Thanks for the well wishes- Getting back to 100% is taking longer than I expected- Major surgery? Hah! I figured I'll be good as new in a few weeks, max! Right? Not quite, but getting there. Knees- what can I say?
As my other half 'Tiny Dinosaurs'...
Thank you both so much-
Halfpasthen, I think you have an excellent point with wetting the food- much of what I read from a people perspective in low density diets involved adding more water. I can also vouch that even a few blueberries makes for a blue mess LOL
@ChickenCanoe- thank you for...
We actually spent time in the visit trying to locate a low density diet available commercially with no luck. I mentioned that the resources here might have some suggestions, and he agreed it would be a great place to look for info. I'm hoping someone here has specific knowledge of either a...
Hi Everyone-
Update on Tilly- Man, are we learning a ton! I finally found a vet (Exotic avian... go figure) right in my backyard. So very grateful; it took a few tries, and I want to share where we are now, how we got here, and ask a question or 3 about low density feed.
Since my last...
Thank you everyone. The boy is acting like himself now, and his crow has returned with the same vigor and volume. I really appreciate your comments and help.
Hi All- We've been battling with a case of bumblefoot in my sweet rooster, who is a year and a half or so, easter egger, and a beloved pet. I found a vet in my area that would see a chicken. I explained how we'd been treating his foot, and it just wasn't getting better, but seemed to be...
Hi All-
Mixed flock, two 13 month old Barred Rocks going though a significant molt. Bald rears, some feather loss at necks. They mirror each other in the locations of feather loss, while the Easter egger lost all of her head feathers, and now has started losing her tail and rear also...
Reporting back- my usual vet won't do it. "Don't see livestock" and "wouldn't know what to look for" were the comments from the vet tech. I'm making more calls though. Thanks for the idea!
Hi Morrigan-
Is that fecal float the same process done for dogs and cats, so my 'regular' vet could do that test regardless of the species? That would be great!
I'll reach out tomorrow!
Thanks for the great idea!
Thank you Wyorp Rock. I appreciate your thoughts- these are my first chickens and while I feel like I read a ton about this/them, I'd hate to miss doing something that would help.
One other thing that I suspect is unrelated- From her egg #1, every one has always been elongated. Long and...
Hi Everyone,
I have a 14 month old easter egger, Tilly (Attila the Hen) who has a constant problem with lose poop. I know chickens poop a lot, but what she produces is nothing like the other 5 hens. She varies from watery with little other content, to a watery diarrhea like splash... yes I...
Thank you so much everyone- seeing these pics and getting the wonderful information makes me relax so much about my little harpies suddenly showing balding butts:) I do feel guilty though for initially suspecting my crazy little Nugget (that one has a screw loose to begin with, and fixates...
