Is my lavender silkie a rooster or hen. Definitely has a large comb but no waddle.

Thanks chris, i updated my post to say lavender instead of lavender silkie. Thanks for the pictures NovaAman. So its true then that they don't need to have waddles to be male. Maybe this will be a quiet gentle boy then. He doesn't peck hard on the other chickens necks like the other 2...

Is my lavender silkie a rooster or hen. Definitely has a large comb but no waddle.

Thanks he/she is so pretty :( Aww bummer. Are there not any silkies that are hens w/ bigger combs like this? My wyandotte hen has a rather large comb! I'm still hoping this little guy is actually a girl :(

Is my lavender silkie a rooster or hen. Definitely has a large comb but no waddle.

Hello all, my 4 silkies are about 4.5 - 5 months old now and I hear crowing but cannot figure out which one is doing it. Do you think my lavender splash silkie is a male. I really hope not because he/she is the sweetest one out of the 4. And cutest! He has a much larger comb then the other...

Can I raise week old chicks with my lonely pullet?

No I don't expect the 10 week old pullet to raise and keep the chicks warm. But I want her to feel like she is part of a flock and socialized. My concern was if the chicks would know to stay near the lamp at night in such a large space. I dont want to raise my chicks in a cardboard box and...

Can I raise week old chicks with my lonely pullet?

I have a silver laced wyandotte pullet who is 2.5 months old. She had 2 silkie pullets with her but 1 died and the other I had to give away because it turned out to be a rooster and would crow in the mornings. If I get 2 new silkies, could I put a 100 watt lamp in my 4' by 8' coop with the 2...

Question about St Augustine grass and Free roam hens

momtotnt, I was planning on leaving them out there all day and put the 2 hens back in their coups at night. Let yours loose for the next few days and share the experience. Kidding. KC gave me a good point. If I leave them out all day, and I do choose to get a silkie, hawks may carry her...

Ameraucana hen destined to one egg color?

If I only got 1 Ameraucana hen, would it always lay the exact same egg color? IE, it lays a beige egg, would that mean it would always lay a beige egg for the rest of its life? If I wanted a blue egg, would I have to get 10 Ameraucana's, find the 1 that lays blue eggs, keep it, and give away...

Question about St Augustine grass and Free roam hens

I'm trying to plan ahead to see if I really can live with 2 hens. I want them to be free roaming chickens in my 50' by 70' back yard. If I have to keep them confined in a coup or section off a tiny area of my yard, I don't think I want hens at all then. I'll end up neglecting them and just...
