But this is one of my older gals, 4 years old; never ever been sick a day in her life. The new chicken brought a cold and this is what she ended up with. She does not smell at all, just laboring to breath and pussy eye. I will look up both you suggested. Thanks so much.
Here is a front view so you can see how swollen her right eye is. I have gently removed alot of thick white, cheesey looking pus twice a day from her eye by applying a warm, wet compress.
Hi All;
My poor gals. I have 3 older gals and 6 new gals. Unfortunately one my new gals brought some sort of cold in to my flock; even after keeping seperate before integrating them. All 3 of my older gals have caught it. They are gurglilng when they breath, have snot bubbles, and one of them...
Okay, so it's been a couple of days now since isolating Angel in the garage in her own cage to heal. I soaked her feet and cleaned them really well and covered them with neosporin, also picked up some antibiotic powder which I coated cut up grapes in and fed a little bit to her in case this was...
Hi;
My sweet Buff Orpington, Angel, has a really hard, hot, swollen right foot.I don't think it's Bumblefoot, I cannot find a dark spot or scab anywhere. It looks almost like 3 pus filled abcesses. She cannot walk on it and acts as if it's painful. I soaked her in warm epsom salt water last 2...
Thanks so much. The girls seem better, are laying more eggs and not fidgeting so much, just the bites on my poor Mom. Don't want them over running us, so am looking for wood ash now; heard that is good for them to dust bathe in, but have no fireplace myself so not sure where to find that.
Hey Everyone;
This is NIcciChick in Southern Calif. My poor hens are totally over-run with bird mites! Yuck. We have had them come into the house on our cats as well and my Mom looks like she's been eaten alive. She's covered with horrid red, itchy bites and feels crawly all day and night. So...
Thanks for the input. I've thought of putting a red light in their coop to help with warmth and helping increase their laying too. Any thoughts on that?
HI Everyone;
Well, my girls are all better from the dry fowl pox and their feathers are pretty much all grown back in after molting on top of it. Still very eggs laid since all of this. One of my Aumerancas has laid faithfully each day through all of this. She usually lays beautiful, petite...
My girls are finally all getting better. They all ended up infected, crusty, and looked miserable but had great energy and did not seem bothered a bit by it. We swabbed each of them all over their combs and legs with beta dine and that helped greatly in the healing process. Right now they all...
Thanks so much everyone. I'll check out both pox link and favus and see what is bet to treat her. Only 3 of my other girls show any signs of same thing on a much smaller scale. I got iodine to put on the pox and will determine what it is and treat. I appreciate the help.
Blessings,
NIcci
Hi
When I went out to feed my girls this morning I found Suzy with weird stuff all over her comb. Looks like small white fuzzy dots and black dots, almost like a fungus. Anyone recognize this and know how to treat it. Afew of the others seem to have a bit of it on their combs as well.
Thanks...
Thanks. I've gott supplemental lighting and use it as soon as the days get shorter so that they have enough light to continue laying. I guess that because they laid an egg each day as soon as they started to lay I am expecting them to continue to do so. It just seems odd that for the past 3...
Thank you for all the ideas. I'll combine the two and use the sand and the pavers so that they have variety. They also have our huge avocado tree to hide under.
Blessings,
NIcciChick
Hi;
This is NicciChick. Here we are in So. Cal. and the weather is finally turning cooler. My girls are 1 year old now and I've started to see a drastic drop in egg production towards the end of our hot, hot summer and now. My girls started laying eggs when 5 months old and faithfully each...
